You just need to study somewhere without distractions and think about getting that CPA. I used an empty office and I just sat there for hours studying. I would suggest doing that if you can. I found the library too distracting. When I study I need to have nothing going on around me.

Try to find that place with no distractions. It's alright to get up every once in awhile to walk around to let your brain relax a little but remind yourself every time you mentally wander that you need to study to pass this exam. The more time you focus on studying now, the less time you'll end up studying in total. Effective studying is much more important than total study hours.

NIU CPA Review Correspondence is awesome!

I passed all four sections on the first attempt

With such a range of concepts, it can frustrate the living hell out of us, and honestly, some people weren't real keen on corporate tax, cost accounting, or whatever when we learned it (or just scraped by) the 1st time…yet here we face these four monsters…armed with only an online calculator and some Prometric center scratch paper….

Here's the deal: Walk through each problem and say it in your head, okay, where does this come from, what's the next step…follow along the examples and do it with the book until you're on autopilot…then you have trained your brain to walk through the process, or even lead you through the process.

You have to do the things you don't like and don't do well and skip what you already know.

@apbandj – I just looked up that technique online this morning and read about it and tried it out. It's the Pomodoro Technique. I still am not convinced, though, as I found myself feeling like I was on a roll, only to have to stop and take a break, then refocus to get back on track when my break was up. The break felt like an interruption. I think I just need to commit to a certain number of minutes/hours of study without getting online (like here on this site) because that can eat up a lot of time once I get distracted with it all. I agree that breaks are needed, but I think I need to take one at an opportune time and then NOT get online but do something else during my break with a time limit.

That being said, I'd better log off and get back to work!

momto5….. i'm using the pomodoro technique also. but in stead of following it to the T, i take a break after each section. about 5-15 mins break, depending on the length of the section i just finished. love the breaks it really helps me re-focus.

during every break i listen to my favorite song while may be texting or checking e-mails or reading interesting posts here! i come back all recharged!
