The only thing that kept me focused was literally pouring in about 3 scoops of ground coffee into a cup, filling it with warm water. letting it set for about 20 minutes. (I used those 20 minutes for a napuela), then there was nothing stopping me… I could go up to 5 or 6 hours HAM.

@ Nam – I have that same problem, one word in the lecture/book and I'm off to never never land. I don't/can't consume caffeine so I just sometimes sit around n wander off until my brain gets back on track.

I make sure I go to the gym at least 3x a week even if it's just to run/walk for 45 minutes. It really clears my head and makes me feel better and it calms my nerves. Gives me a lot more energy to be able to study 5-6 hours after work. I get a medium iced coffee from Dunkin Donuts on the weekends and everyday a few days before the exam which helps me study for 12 hrs. I do give myself a break for a few minutes every hour or so just to make myself feel better. I put the radio on, go on facebook, but I make sure I only take about 10 mins. For me cutting myself off completely from “fun” things made me cranky and less focused.

lol @nam love your honestly! i am going thru the same thing. i even deleted my FB.

i'm doing to the same thing as *StudyingSucks. trying my best to get an hr of workout IN if i dont i am lazy all day. it gives me enough energy to keep going for the day. plus what works is taking a mini nap after 3hrs of non-stop work.

and i'm keeping my self away from useless social activities. i pick and choose imp events to attend. that way my head stays clear. also go on youtube. there are several video's for music to listen to while studying. “white noise” that helps us focus. my fav one's are called “brain sync ” i always have that on when i do MC's.

i hope all this helps to bring my embarrasing score to a passing score!

@Nam I make it a point to exercise at least three times a week. I study so much during the week and weekends that I treat myself to being on FB a few minutes every evening. I don't have wireless internet so I have also moved my study area to a part of the house that I can't plug into the internet. Please don't cut yourself off from things that you enjoy or you will go crazy!. Just enjoy in moderation.

Another thing that keeps me focused is I have a print out of my passing scores posted at three different places on my cubicle at work. That way no matter which way I turn in my seat I see those wonderful numbers looking back at my and knowing that I only have one more part to go!!

Hope this helps and good luck with your exams!!

What I used to do was unplug the modem and then go study far away from the modem…

but I would end up walking back up the stairs and all the way to the other end of the house to plug it back in multiple times during the day. At least I got some exercise out it.

Put spoons in the freezer, and when you sense yourself getting unfocused or hazy, put them on your eyes for a 3 minute break. You'll be wide awake and focused for hours! Plus, it's a really good remedy against those inevitable puffy eyes 😉

Hi, it's been a while since I've commented anywhere on A71. Thanks for your honest question, Nam. I feel like that sometimes too, and am tempted to pick up new hobbies or diversions.

It helps to change locations, walk the high school track with ear phones either listening to NINJA notes or my lectures, organize my work area if papers got too spread out, do one thing I really like and cross off a nagging thought that may be un-important or not even urgent.

Good luck with your studies! Don't give up 🙂

I remember a comment I got on a thread I started several months ago about being distracted. I forget the name for the technique, but they suggested studying for 25 minutes and then taking a 5 minute break and repeat. I mostly followed this for the rest of my studying and it did make my study time much for efficient.

Gonna try out that frozen spoon technique.

Started practicing the gangnam style dance moves on each break….at home of course. Gets me energized right away.
