I guess I just needed to vent a little. I took FAR back in March/April can’t really remember exact month but I ended up getting 65. Im retaking it this Jan and I feel like I will fail with a much lower score. Im now working on the Becker homework and have been doing much poorly compared to my first attempt and falling behind the schedule by 1 whole chapter.

For those that failed the first time in the 60’s how did you pass the 2nd or third attempt.. basically what did you do to get that magic number? I feel like I’m getting little depressed from this section and I have not felt this way from other sections. I just can’t imagine what to do if I fail again… My Becker is expiring in Feb too.. Still need AUD.. Would Ninja alone be sufficient for both sections if worse comes the worse.. No pass on both with Becker expiring. Thanks for the responses.

Honestly, after 6x taking these exams I still dont really know what works and what doesn’t.. I studied most for AUD but still didnt pass.

Sorry I didn't mean to freak you out! It wasn't as horrific as my last FAR exam suprisingly. But then again, perhaps I am numb at this point. My process is:

    1. Read and rewrite ninja notes
    2. Watch the Ninja videos (Bob Monette)…they are old videos but really sum up topics and make it short and sweet.
    3. Wiley – MC by topic…then I will look at notes if my scores are below 70.
    4. Final review 6 days – reread notes and more MC.

I did not do any simulations other than the ones that are demonstrated from Bob's videos. I have wasted money over the years on CPA courses and just decided to stick with what I have. I feel much better watching those videos than I ever have, now I truly understand FAR. My only issue are those few topics that I skipped over. I feel if I had studied them then perhaps I would have passed them exam. Just try not to skip over anything, it could haunt you. I overstudied in other areas and did just fine on those questions. What's the saying…FAR is a mile wide and surface deep. Just be comfortable with 100% of the topics and I think you have a better chance of passing. Push that test back if you can until you have touched every area. I feel your pain it not wanting to take it again, besides it's your last one….you can do it 🙂

@Spartans92 you have this!!! You can do this!! seriously I feel like if I can pass FAR anyone can :-). Changing study material really helped me but probably too late for that with only a month to go- best advice I can give you is don't let this f_k with your head- and really and truly understand the underlying concepts and accompanying JEs. Ask yourself before answering an MCQ- what is the rule- why do I solve / answer it this way… how would the answer change if it was IFRS and if you don't know look it up so you do know. You got this man- like I said if I can do it anyone can. GOOD LUCK!

and they ask me why I drink...

FAR- 61-next time I'll ask for lube instead of a calculator
REG-75- Never been so happy to see such a low grade
    BEC- 8/11
    AUD- 9/2

@Spartans92, I sat for the new format on May 31. The actual questions weren't as creative (or WTF) as previous exams, but the biggest hurdle this time around was time management due to separated and more involved simulations. Old way you can identify the most difficult sim and just save it for last, now they are in different testlets (2-3-3). I wasted over an hour on the first sim testlet, and had 55 minutes to finish the rest LOL. I feel as though Ninja and Gleim are both still helpful, but I'm not confident because of how rushed I felt.

    AUD - 1st - 60 (12/12), 61 (2/13), 61 (8/13), 78! (11/15)
    REG - 55 (2/16) 69 (5/16) Retake(8/16)
    BEC - 71(5/16) Retake (9/16)
    FAR - (8/16)

Thanks to my old pals (Mckan and Mtaylo)! @Mtaylo, with it being the 1st time new exam im sure you will get that sweet V! You were so close on your last try. I really appreciate the feedback guys. That gave me some motivation as I have been slacking off. It does get to my head at times especially when I have said many times I don't have the support I need at home. It sucks! Every weekend when I get a call to hangout I wouldn't even need to say further and people would go “oh wait u r STILL STUDYING” Its quite embarrassing to say the least.

Hi @Mtaylo!!! 🙂 still lurking around here until you and Spartan pass 🙂

    @Accountingbeans
I honestly think changing review material is what did it for me with FAR. I used Rogers for my first sit and then my second sit I threw in Ninja- I was a little blindsided when I failed the second time because I thought I had a pretty good grasp on the material- but once I got Gleim I realized I really had zero clue :-). Gleim was VERY VERY VERY in depth which I think puts a lot of people off but for me it was absolutely exactly what I needed– I am def. a more info is better type person and it honestly really helped me start thinking in terms of GAAP and Journal Entries- I tried to apply both to every single question I worked- and like I said above if a question was GAAP I asked myself what was the rule/ how should it be solved / what are the JE's and how would this change if it were IFRS. Come exam time I felt almost over prepared…

Another thing that really helped was the FAR study group- GOOD LUCK to everyone!!!

@mtaylo24 is right – Time management will be your best friend with the new version of CPA. The way the sims are broken up makes it difficult as you dont know what lies in the next screen. On the study material content – I would do tons on MCQs. I just retook FAR after a miserable 73 and three weeks of studying (was in hospital due to allergic reaction) so as soon as my eyes opened I was doing MCQs. Best of luck and practice time management – write out a time line and stick to it.
