Tougher than it sounds if you take into consideration:

    – Money you’re already spending for exams and retakes

    – Money lost due to opportunity costs

    – TIME LOST DUE TO STUDYING

    – Happiness, fun, and memories foregone

    – Tears of sorrow and frustration (per tear)

    – Etc. etc.

If I had to put a $ amount to it I’d say…. no more than $15K.

Edit: Forgot to put this topic in the Off-Topic subtopic!

    FAR: 50, 76!
REG: 74... (ouch baby, very ouch), 76!
    AUD: 65, 91!?
    BEC: 80! Aaaand doneskies!

    May 2012 to August 2013. Can't believe it's over.

As much as it would take to get licensed. If I could afford to pay 100k and they'd give me a license, I wouldn't do it: it would cheapen the designation and pollute the industry. And kill the satisfaction of personally accomplishing something so elite.

And on a side note, I don't think anyone mentioned the cost of undergraduate school to become eligible. 🙂

    Licensed Florida CPA:
    B: 71, 73, 79
    A: 83
    R: 78 (expired), 77
    F: 74, 74, 80

    It's finally freaking over.

The license could be worth $1,000,000 over the course of your lifetime. You don't have to be an accountant to know that the 25k in happiness that you forewent while studying was well worth it. If I and only I (if everyone could do it the certification would be worthless) could pay money to have the knowledge of the CPA exam implanted in my brain, and handed a license I would pay… FMV of $3000 per section plus costs of study materials and exam fees (we pay those anyways). so about 15-17k, otherwise I would rather just do it the hard way.

I'm frugal. Even if you could buy a license without putting any effort into it, I'd probably still study and take the exams myself.

    FAR- 77
    AUD -49, 71, 84
    REG -56,75!
    BEC -75

Massachusetts CPA (non reporting) since 3/12.

Haha, so many funny and awesome posts. Paying for the CPA exam would definitely lessen the value of the CPA.

I'm referring to an instance like… Tim Gearty and Peter Olinto knock on your door one Saturday evening while you're studying FAR. They look their normal selves and act their normal way. But then Olinto gets a straight face and says, “…But let's get to the point. How much you willin' to pay us to guarantee you having a CPA right here and now, BAYBEE!?” Meanwhile, Gearty is in the other room complimenting my pink dress collection. You don't answer because you're in shock. I mean… no one has ever acknowledged your beautiful collection. Anyway, Gearty comes into the room, “Again. How much? CAR IN BIG.” CAR IN BIG? What's CAR IN BIG have to do with anything? Anyway, you can't give them an answer so they put on their MIB shades, flash your memory away, and walk out.

    *ahem*

So just assume it's a one-time offer to only you and thus would not drop the value of having a CPA. =)

I have a 2 year old son, I started this when he was just over 1 year old, I feel like I have missed so much of his growing up because of this test, but i persevere so that I can build him a better life.

For the question at hand, to have that year back with my son, to spend more time playing and laughing, and enjoying my family; I would pay limbs to get that time back with my kid…

@mla and @runnerup I'm with you guys – too cheap to pay more for it than I already had to!!! However, I don't have kids, my family lives out of state, my boyfriend is very supportive, and I have very very few friends in the area, so I didn't have as much of a personal-life sacrifice. I didn't lose time with kids; didn't lose time with my family; didn't have to turn down invitations from friends; and even though it was hard sometimes to turn to the books instead of my boyfriend (he had some kinda major issues that he had to deal with during my exam-period and I wish I could've supported him more), he supported me in studying which helped. (Note: His family is in the area, and did take a decent bit of time, but having to turn his family down doesn't hurt the same as having to turn my own down.) And now…I can come home every evening (to our own home which we just bought recently!) and not have to study. And that makes it worth it. 🙂 So, I don't think I would have paid to have it handed to me, but I am so thankful now to just have to ignore my man 5 days a week during business hours (and some OT), rather than in the evenings and on weekends too!
