I’ve seen a million different answers on how research sims are graded. Does anyone actually know??

It's literally right or wrong, unless it's pretest then it's thrown out.

So no partial credit?…Do you know if it's worth just as much or less than the other sims?

It could be graded for partial credit if you get a section correct. I think research question is worth less than the other sims. That's my take.

By the way, could you give me tips how to pass REG? It's my last section and I have a trouble with it. Good luck with your AUD exam!

    AUD - 65, 72, 70, 74, 81
    FAR - 66, 71, 76
    REG - 69
    BEC - 80

I've heard each sim has equal points, except for the throw away sim. So if you have a sim with a ton of tabs to enter info, each tab is worth a % of that point total for the given sim.

So research is all or nothing, lets say 6 points.

Another sim worth 6 points has 6 pieces of info to answer. Each answer is worth 1 point (6 points for 1 sim)

    AUD-10/31/15 63, 84!

I found this as an answer the AICPA gave to the question

“The CPA Examination uses a scoring algorithm called Item Response Theory (IRT); scores are not derived by simply counting the number of correct responses. For each section, answers to the multiple-choice questions across the 3 testlets are used as a single collection of responses to determine the single score for the MCQ portion of the exam section. Similarly, for the AUD, FAR, or REG section, answers to the questions across the 6 or 7 TBSs are used as a single collection of responses to determine the single score for the TBS portion of the section. The individual tasks are not weighted.”

Does this mean that each tab in each question is worth a certain amount of points and tallied up to a total points possible for the sims and questions individually don't matter?

Also, @ragepsn29 the thing that really got me through REG was reading/listening to the lectures twice and making FLASHCARDS…For me REG took a while to understand, but then just to clicked..I went from scoring 50s and 60s in NINJA MCQs to 80s at the flip of a switch…The flashcards helped keep everything organized in my head because all of the rules can get confusing and scrambled in your head really quick.

Hmm, I know you're very worried but it's really hard to gauge how the tests are graded because I TRULY believe they are graded on a curve and it's different for every exam. How I see it as that each sim is roughly 6-7 points each (but EACH sim is weighted the same as a percentage of the whole exam).

The research SIM, from what I've heard, is literally right or wrong. Or it's either you receive 6-7 points or that amount of percentage if you got it right. I don't think there is partial credit for this sim (again, from what I've only heard).

I just took audit too so I know where you're getting at. I had one sim where I had 16 answers or those drop-down menus and one sim where it had 4-5 drop-down menus. If I got 10/16, it'll be a calculation of THAT particular sim, I would have received 4.4 points for that sim, (10/16)*7pts ~ 4.4. If I got 2/5 on the second sim, it would be roughly (2/5)*7pts ~ 3 pts. I believe that's how the exam calculates your score in the end. When those scores tally up, I think they evaluate your responses for each sim to see whether you garnered enough points for the TBS section (again, conjecture based on what you've just posted). If you think you did well on the exam overall, I really don't think missing the research SIM would be a big deal. But it seems you want to get down to nitty-gritty since I assume, this is your last section. However, if there is one sim that mostly people miss or has been predetermined to be a pretest, that sim doesn't count on anyone's exam.

What trips me up is the fact that they say at the end “The individual tasks are not weighted”…Are the individual tasks the individual sim or each individual tab within a sim?

I would THINK that the each sim is weighted as a percentage of the whole exam. However! There is theory and it makes senses too, that HARDER sims are weighted more than others, which sucks since I do believe that I received a number of fairly simple SIMs, so I hope it counts towards my score.

But that's the caveat, if you found a SIM hard, then maybe people have found it hard as well. So the points EARNED on those HARDER sims are weighted more. However, you don't know which sims are harder until you grade other's exams. So don't worry about it. You've been improving everytime you've taken this exam, you'll pass this time and be done forever….

@hasy yea, thats what i'm starting to think/hope too..that sims and mcq's are given a point value by difficulty level determined by how many people got it right or wrong.

and thanks, just anxious because if I don't pass I lose my BEC credit.
