I came across this interesting article about how much your coffee habits can cost you over your lifetime.
https://www.ordinaryhomemaker.com/a-coffee-a-day-keeps-retirement-away/
I wonder how much money CPA exam candidates are spending on their daily coffee intake.

I usually start my day with a cold caffeine (Dr. Pepper, Diet Coke, or a Monster), and then work my way into the hot caffeines, a mid morning cup or two of coffee. I'll typically grab another cold caffeine in the late afternoon and possibly one more if studying late.
I recognize it's not all that healthy- and I participated in the weight gain CPA thread the other day. I just want to get through these tests, and then I'll limit my liquid calorie intake to a beverage with hops and grain.

April 1, 2014 at 8:46 pm #541664GatorbatesParticipantI chewed tobacco while studying. Religiously. It was my study vice, and helped me focus. I could not study without it. Through two years and multiple exams. I don't think I could have passed without Kodiak. When I got my final passing score, I stopped. Been clean for 60 days now. Hoping forever. Still drink one cup of coffee each morning.
Licensed Florida CPA:
B: 71, 73, 79
A: 83
R: 78 (expired), 77
F: 74, 74, 80It's finally freaking over.

April 1, 2014 at 9:01 pm #541666StephAVMemberI drink at least 2 cups a day… I rarely buy coffee at a cafe. If I do it is either just a social thing or my coffee maker is broken. Free coffee at work. Love it. The older I get the more aware I am of every penny spent and how those are adding up.
I stopped getting my hair highlighted a few years ago, mostly for that reason. Now our family is considering joining this really nice gym, but $109 a month? That could pay like half of a pretty awesome vacation.
I use mint.com to track our family budget and DH and I each get $100 a month of “blow” money. We can use this on whatever we want, no questions asked. Well, I might ask because I'm nosey. 🙂 I find that when I know I only have $100 for the month and I can see where it is going, I'm that much more selective.
FAR - 7/13 - 72, 11/13- 74, 2/14- 82!!! Best score ever (for me)!!!
BEC - 1/14 - 75!!! Perfect score! First Pass! YAY!!!
AUD - 8/14 - 80!!!
REG - 5/14 - 72, 10/14 - 66, 1/15 - 78 - DONE FOREVER!!!

My husband drinks coffee all day, but doesn't spend nongrocery money on it. He gets it free at work or he makes it at home. We each get $30/week to buy whatever we want that isn't part of our grocery/gas weekly budget. You never realize how ridiculous your spending habits are until you are buying something with loose change because you already spent your weekly allowance and you aren't getting any more until Monday unless you can find it in the couch cushions. 🙂

April 1, 2014 at 9:36 pm #541670jhawkins1010MemberCPAMommy, $30 a week is some MAJOR discipline. Maybe I can start with $50 and pray about it … lol
I have actually been getting worried about the amount of coffee and energy drinks I've been consuming while studying. The really sad part is, since I'm so early in the process, part of my concern is that I'll build up immunity and won't work anymore. Then I'll really be screwed!

I've been drinking no-cal Monster or Rockstar energy drinks (I know…..artificial sweeteners are bad, mmmmkay) in its place. I typically restrain myself to one a day in the morning. I might have a cup of tea later in the day if I need a pick-me-up. Occasionally I will have a second energy drink, but it's usually as a treat/reward in the middle of a productive day, not as a necessity to power through. I try to get them on sale. When they are a dollar apiece, I buy a couple dozen at a time. Very rarely will pay the gas station price.
Sort of related to the posted link, but my biggest bitterness-inducing routine expense is dry cleaning. I need to learn how to iron a friggin' dress shirt.
