    Hi all,

It’s almost summer time and people are starting to take days off. I just got curious and want to know how many PTO days you get in public vs private.

I know it would vary depending on the place and how long you’ve been working…but mostly interested in days for people with 1 and 2 years of experience.

It’s 15 days reasonable for first years in public/Big 4? What about in industry?

    Thanks!

    FAR- Passed
    AUD- **F,F,F,** Retake TBD
    REG- Passed
    BEC- Passed

private industry – just went back to office work after almost 20 years running my own (non related) business.
    15 days vacation
    7 days sick time
    10 holidays

also, unlimited flex time of up to three hours a day (ie I need to go to my daughter's award show – I go on Friday morning, I can make up the time any time that week)

I work in non-profit. I get ‘up to' 152 PTO hours per year, accrued each pay-period. So I accrue 5.84 hours every 2 weeks. (If a pay period has less than 80 hours, you accrue less – .073 PTO per hour) I cannot go negative in my PTO bank – so I have been saving it up for the 2 weeks I take off at the end of June, and then save it up again for the 2 weeks off in December.
These PTO hours are in addition to 8 paid holidays and are for personal, vacation, sick, etc.

I am on the management team (Director of Finance), so I am expected to put in more than 40 hours per week – but I do get to flex my time. If I work several 9-10 hour days, I can take a half day. I also have the option to work from home periodically – depending on what the work is.

    REG - (05/07/2016)
    BEC - (05/21/2016)
    AUD - 49
    FAR - 50, retaking 04/02/16

I'm a governmental auditor (I audit county governments) for the State of Alabama. We earn 4 hours 20 minutes vacation leave and 4 hours 20 minutes sick leave every pay period. Our pay periods are every half month, so that amounts to 13 days of vacation and 13 days of sick each year.

After 5 years of working with the Department, vacation leave goes up to 5 hours 25 minutes earned each pay period, which amounts to 16 days and 2 hours of vacation leave every year. After 10 years, this increases to 19 days and 4 hours of vacation leave each year, and this continues all the way through 25 years with the Department earning 29 days and 2 hours of vacation leave each year.

We also get 1 personal day that we earn at the beginning of the year.

We also get a generous amount of holidays off….13 paid holidays guaranteed. Which doesn't include the Friday after Thanksgiving, which has always been approved since I've been working, and depending on when Christmas falls, we sometimes get 2 days off for Christmas, so we are pretty much guaranteed 14/15 paid holidays every year.

We aren't allowed overtime or comp time, but we aren't expected to work over. Thankfully, there is usually not a big rush to get our audits done so we can usually take off whenever we want during the year, even if it's pretty spur of the moment, except for the last week of October, which is our yearly training. You have to be pretty much on your deathbed to miss that lol.

Our jobs do require some travel, but usually not more than 1 hour or 1 hour 30 minutes. But that can make workdays exceed 10 hours (including driving).

But I'm sure that is still much better than most/all public accounting firms. I value my time and like having the luxury to take off pretty much whenever. And I do not wish to sleep in my office.

    AUD - 85 (8/30/2015)
    FAR - 73 (10/13/2015), 85 (2/29/2016) (AND DONE!)
    BEC - 83 (11/04/2015)
    REG - 81 (11/30/2015)
