We all hear the question or a variation of it. After the exam in come the “how did you do?” and “think you passed?” sort of questions from all angles. I can’t win with my answer. I took REG today and I felt awful walking out.

If I tell people I think I killed it, I’d be flat out lying. If I tell the truth and say it felt like I was run over by a semi-truck, I get the “you are SO negative, I’m sure you did FINE” which is frustrating. I try to get by with “we’ll see, no clue how it went” and that works to some extent.

Anyone else hate fielding this question when you feel the test went terribly? Guess it’s a bit of a negative post… not feeling so hot after REG today.

I like to say something like, “well it's a tough exam but I did the best I could! Guess we'll see in a few weeks” which sounds positive and optimistic even though I may feel like a wreck about it! I sat for audit yesterday and most people seemed satisfied with that, unless you take the comments of a coworker today who snapped “Its not like the result is going to be a big surprise because you studied for 2 months, I should HOPE you passed!”. Hope that she isn't “surprised” when she finds everything she submitted for review today back on her desk decimated with red pen and scathing comments! It's no “surprise” that making snotty comments to your reviewer is usually a bad idea! 😉

    Good Luck Everyone!!!! 🙂

@mints… That co-worker deserves all the red pen you got. What an idiot!

I usually say I think it could go either way which is always true.

like Nickyv I have told very few people I'm sitting this time around. My husband has been great keeping it from friends and family so the number of people who ask are limited.

    A - 61, 91!!
    B - 78!
    F - 76!!!
    R - 71, 73, 74, 69, 77!!!!

    Finally done!

This is my 2nd attempt at the exam, I had two parts passed (failed many) and I stupidly quit, big mistake. Now I'm back and with a vengeance!

I say . . . “It's so nice of you to ask! You know . . . I took off extra time from work to study for this test and now I need to catch up on my work to meet my month-end deadlines. Can we catch up next week – maybe go for coffee – and I'll tell you all about it.”

They say “sure” and wander off and that's it . . .

@ CPAismyonlywayout and @LSNYC, those are the two responses that I usually say. I don't want to lead on that I think I passed or failed, so I think saying that the “MC was good but the SIMS were tough, so it could go either way” is a good way to put it.

I just say I don't know and then say when I might get my score. I don't like when they say “I”m sure you did fine” Really? I was 0-4 last year and I've been slacking on the studying so far this year. I doubt I did fine.

    REG - 5/29/12 (64), 10/1/12 (74), 5/20/13 (75, expires 12/31/14)
    FAR - 8/14/12 (64), 8/5/14 (75)
    BEC - 11/19/12 (70), 2/25/13 (72), 11/21/13 (73), 1/21/14 (73), 8/30/14 (72), 11/24/14 (75)
    AUD - 4/22/13 (65), 10/12/13 (79)

    I'm done!!!

Ugh, hate this question. Just got back from my test and already got a bunch asking. I just replied “I feel ok”

I took REG yesterday and when people have asked I told them it was a disaster, more specifically the sims were a disaster. They tell me I'm a genius so I'll be fine…really because I feel like I failed. Not helping the nerves!

I totally agree! It is so annoying to get the “you are so smart, I'm sure you did JUST fine” after you finish and you are stressed over waiting for your score. Everyone taking these tests are smart! I usually try to answer with a “I have no idea. Everytime I feel I did great I didn't pass, and when I feel it could be bad I passed. I'll let you know when I find out”.

The killer part is when you don't pass and on score release day everyone comes to you “So?? How'd it go? I bet you passed!” and then you have to say your NONpassing score. That part stinks!

    “So how did you do?”

“You will be the first one to know when I get the results” in response to my wife's question.

I never let anyone know the dates I was actually sitting the exams because I do not want to encourage/disappoint their fortune telling careers.

Agree…this is my second time taking REG and in response to my first non passing score everyone was like wow I expected you to pass your so smart. That did not help. Hoping for a small miracle on this one!

people in general, including family, really don't know the process of obtaining the cpa license. All they know is that we are studying like crazy, spending money, and taking tests. I tried not to talk about my exams because those questions will keep coming. Then there is the pressure of saying yes or no, or I'll get it next time or make excuses.

To answer question, there is no easy way and maybe no way to anwer the question with satisfaction, unless we PASS ALL FOUR PARTS.

    It begins with a 75
Been here too long as a cheerleader....ready to pass

Do you want to stop folks from asking how it went?? Try one of these responses. GUARANTEED to work. They’ll never ask you again!

    How was your test?

Response #1: **Loudly and appearing confused** “TEST? What test?” (and walk off)

Response #2: “I didn’t notice awesomeness was listed on the NTS as a “do not bring to the testing center” item…of course I brought mine and got escorted out of the building. I’ll try again when I’m not so darn fly.”

Response #3: “My test? It was NEGATIVE! Thank GOD!”

You have to keep a serious face or it won't work!! 🙂

I tell them I moved the exam and tell them the next sections date. then ask them something about their life and sit and listen!

Boy! People love talking about themselves.

No one cares or remembers anything anyway!
