I wish I had time for hobbies outside of work, studying, and checking this forum lol. I occasionally play video games. I actually leave them at my boyfriends house so I don't get tempted to play rather than study. Once I pass all the exams, I'll probably get back into binge watching Netflix. I'll also hopefully start using my nutri bullet I got for Christmas!

Got a guitar for Christmas. Always wanted to play… but due to studying a ton lately, I only strum the guitar when I walk by it in the hallway haha…

I try working out but lately haven't been able to at all and feel like I'm wasting a ton of money on membership fees. how do others balance work life and fit in the gym? Im paying 70 bucks per month and dont really wanna waste my money 🙂 I work from 7-7 pretty much M-F now with Sat. being 8-3 or 4pm. I try only going Sat and sunday and just study as much as possible. But I'm not getting my monies worth I feel. LOL

@Spartans92 – I've become more realistic with my expectations. I'm just not going to make the gym as often as I should, so I've resigned to going once or twice a week and to be happy with that. That's OK for me since I'm not a bodybuilder-type. It also helps that I have a $10 per month membership to Planet Fitness, so I'm not losing too much by not going (besides my self-respect).

Attempting to get into travel (going to Japan and Europe this year). Enjoy my youth more. Hopefully, looking towards to meal-prep and being more active.

Good thread topic – it goes to show you that accountants CAN be interesting people. 🙂 Spending time on hobbies is one of the top things I missed while studying for the exams. I have quite a few of them – in no particular order, I like skydiving (been 3 times), travelling (been to South Korea, France, and several Caribbean cruises), making jewelry, and writing. I used to write poetry and now just started a blog (about tax issues and career-related interests). I also enjoy doing road races (5ks, all the way up to marathons), but I gave up running when I was in grad school, and especially gave it up while studying for the exams. I'm trying to pick it back up again, but it's a slow process.

After passing my last exam almost a year ago, I thought I'd be long gone from here. I guess I come back to help give back to others, as this board was a big help to me too. Selfishly, it's also nice to look back and be grateful that I'm not going through it anymore (especially with the changes on the horizon).

I'm a lead singer in a classic rock cover band but since I started taking these exams we don't play out as much anymore and definitely don't practice every week like we used to. I'm hoping once I pass we can start playing more and then I'll eventually get back into baking. I love to cook and bake but there's a lot of soup and grilled cheese or frozen pizzas in my house right now.

I just started getting into this forum, but I really enjoy all the different topics. 🙂

@CPA8675309, man I should have went with PF but the thing is they charge quarterly fees and less equipment. I usually go use the swimming pool at my gym too and PF doesn't offer that. But guess 3 months isn't too bad thats roughly around 200 bucks still less than 1 retake LOL.

I wish I can get my life back soon. 🙂 Happy Friday… wait dang gotta work Saturdays.

Wish I had time for hobbies, when I'm not studying I'm in dad mode. T-ball season (age group 4-6) is coming up, lord help me! They are pretty rough on those kids, 2-3 games a week plus a practice. Games usually don't end until about 8 at night. If I wasn't a dad or CPA candidate, lord knows what kind of shenanigans I would be into.

@mtaylo I think what you're saying is T-ball is your hobby. lol.

For those with expensive gym memberships you're not using much…might it be better while studying to switch to home workouts? I've found some killers on YouTube, save time traveling to and from the gym and save the cost of the membership. ‘Course there's no pools at home, but just maintaining a fitness standard can be done at home when you're not able to fully utilize a gym membership. For the price of a month or two's membership, you can buy some dumbbells and other basic workout equipment that you'd like to have, and have quite a workout at home.

I agree @Lilla driving to the gym can be a big commitment but going into your garage or basement for a half hour is totally doable. I bought an expensive Muay Thai bag and hung it up in my garage. Best thing I ever did. Great way to take out frustrations from work and CPA material.

I just bike partially to work. It ends up being about an hour a day exercise which also is my commute. I also get clients that had a connection to biking when younger…and when they see a fendered Cinelli in my office, they go nuts.

I've stuck to exercising through my studying..working out 4 days out of the week or so…I need it! Usually right after work…it gives me that extra boost of energy. I enjoy all watching and participating in sports. Some friends and I get together for some friendly games of soccer and basketball every now and then. I am also a total foodie, although lately I've stuck to a ‘cleaner' eating routine, and have been following my nutrition intake (macros). Music (guitar) is definitely something I'd like to learn.
