    Looking for a simple easy to remember way to know when to use the following

    Are you using Becker? If so, then at the end of reports chapter they have given a chart/table. Use that to familiarize it. Also, please pay attention to what type of wordings is used to express different opinions. You will eventually get it by solving MCQ's multiple times. Write down the explanations from MCQ's then it will start making you remember.

    I haven't used CPA Excel. So have no idea. But I would say again what I mentioned above. Do the MCQ's, and keep taking notes on the ones you got wrong. Understanding while taking notes – why you got wrong and comparing your thought process behind it is most important in any exam you preparing for. I am sure your textbook would have sample reports. Read those sample reports multiple times to understand key wordings. I used Becker, and Gleim. But found that former was very well layed out in textbook.
