Help I am in a procrastination loop! Did 2,800 MCQ’s and then nothing for the past few days. Am usually pretty good at tricking myself into getting back at it, but nothing seems to work.

    Any suggestions?

Oh don't linger….this is a rut you do not want to stay in….I wasted an entire window starting and stopping. Anyway, when is your test….if your test date is near put it in your cell phone or planner as a reminder. Or write it on the calendar in bold red letters so you can see it. Or you could change study locations, instead of studying at the office, pack up and go to Starbucks instead. Good luck and get going.

Sit down on the couch, kick your feet up, put something mindless on TV and start writing out flashcards. That's pretty much what I did when I ended up in a study rut and couldn't handle it anymore – it at least kept me in the material. Sooner or later I was back at the MCQs and in the book. 🙂

P.S. You'd be surprised at how much writing out flashcards or notes helps the material stick in your head, even if you aren't really paying attention to what you're writing….

    I agree with tncincy's advice.

It's really easy for me to turn a few days into a really long break! I usually study at home. I've found that changing where I study, even if it's just for one night, helps me get back into the groove. I'll pack something to eat after work and then head to the library until it closes. I'll also text a friend that I am going to the library to study because I'm in a rut to help keep me accountable. Then I make sure I follow up after I'm done studying or the next day to let her know that I went.

    Good luck!

Thanks everyone. I think breaks are death in terms of productivity for me. I've just got to pretend the outside world doesn't exist until I sit for Aud again in early January. Or, like someone said, do something that is still studying but not thinking so much such as copying the reports verbatim onto a blank sheet.

Or coming over here to look at the threads.

Work or study no non-accounting distractions.

    Or Comedy always helps:

I have lectures on MP3 so if I need to move around I can listen to those.

You'd think my house would be clean, but nooooooooooooooooooo.

if you have ninja mcq or combo you have BLITZ! right now. i am all about letting Jeff talk while i take a break from mcq's. i do think about what he went through to pass these exams and all he is doing so it won't happen to us. that motivates me!
so get back to it right now. start with 10 questions. have your pen, paper and calculator ready.

When you notice you are posting on forums about not doing it, stop posting on forums and do it… ?

@ sabake01 – It's easy to say stop posting and just do it, but sometimes studying is a mood. When you don't feel like it, you just don't. Then it's the distractions. as soon as I start studying and get into a groove, somebody always want or need something that kills the momentum. Then I”m back to re-motivation. Sometimes I can go hard one day and just can't get going the next day so I'll say ok tomorrow will be better which ends up 4 or 5 days instead of one. And we all know we need to go at it everyday. I guess I'm saying these forums provide a little reassurance and motivation when we need it. So for me, please don't stop posting., I need that boost or someone else's bright idea to get going or keep going.
