I was able to get through FAR and BEC without reading or listening to lecture bs

c the multiple choice questions covered the whole topic well. For AUD, I went through the multiple choice questions much easier. In fear, the homework questions did not cover the topic well bc it seemed to easy to be true, I supplement with audio.

Now i’m studying for REG. I already went through lectures and multiple choice questions and keep getting the feeling like it’s not enough bc again it just seems too easy. The problem is i don’t learn much from straight reading.

Just curious if anyone has passed REG without reading the book?

What did what I said have anything about being right or wrong?

Dude. Good luck on your test alright? I mean it. I'm not here thinking “I hope this guy fails.” If the material really is that easy for you then that is great. Like in the other thread all I'm doing is just trying to tell you to not underestimate the exam. I'm not your enemy so you don't need to play the victim card. There are plenty of older candidates that take these exams. No one is picking on anyone because they are older. All I've done is just been straight up with you. If all you wanted is for people to say “yes” to the questions you've asked:

    “Is REG easy?” A: Yes.
“Can you pass without opening the books?” A: Yes.

Of course you'll find someone who will say that to you. Just like Mla said there are people who blaze through these tests and also struggle. I personally did not struggle with REG so it's not like your posts bothered me personally. But many people on here do struggle with these exams and REG in particular. If I was someone who had struggled with REG over and over it probably might rub them the wrong way. Especially the way you like to throw around the term easy. Asking “Is REG an easy exam?” is a lot different than asking “Are Becker/Roger MCQ close in difficulty to the actual exam?” You probably think I'm some asshole but I'm simply looking at your post from a different perspective that you probably didn't see. Also, you made a thread asking nearly the exact same thing a couple days ago with people already answering the question.

The other thing that's important to remember is what else everyone has going on. I think I wouldn't have struggled as much at another point in my life but I was working full time, also had a part time job, in school for my masters and had two kids. Frankly I had no business adding the cpa to all that would have been much smarter to wait until I finished grad school or my husband was working so I didn't need two jobs. Instead of three fails I may have only had two, or none. But to answer the original question do I think it's possible to “get” the material strictly from the mcq without any other resources? For some people absolutely.

@GoingAllIn , you can do good without reading “Business Laws” but for Tax you should read, why so?
In tax there are rules and due to permutation and combination of options for various rules ,it would be easier to read the base then solve tons of questions.Let me clarify what I mean, say for exchange of properties and basis there are various scenarios exist and MCQ of seemingly contradicting scenarios will confuse you more.BTW there are just 4-5 chapters on Tax.Business laws you may manage with MCQs.
Now let me ask this question ,how you managed FAR without reading book ?
Don't feel offended with comments of chrislo2007 ,he is very supportive person on this forum , I am surprised with his reply on this thread. It seems chrislo2007 is stressed.
chrislo2007 given me good tips on FAR and I am following religiously.

No but ive failed all 4 with reading the books. I often can read a chap or watch a vid, then do the corresponding questions, and I will still get them wrong. Makes you question the point of even reading/watching at all.

    AUD - 1st - 60 (12/12), 61 (2/13), 61 (8/13), 78! (11/15)
    REG - 55 (2/16) 69 (5/16) Retake(8/16)
    BEC - 71(5/16) Retake (9/16)
    FAR - (8/16)

Chris: fyi I'm not a dude, I am a 40 year old woman. You clearly have been irritated with all my threads and merely came on to give me a lecture. Your comments were both condescending and full of sarcasm. Yes I have created another similar thread but didn't receive a lot of responses and still felt puzzle. Like most here, I am trying to squeeze in all the exams before Q2 which means I don't have of time to waste. In a desperate attempt I created another thread, hoping to get further insights to avoid going down the wrong path.

Nath: I think 15 years of working experience helped me with FAR, however I have no experience with AUD or REG. I have two friends with similar background n they also passed FAR and BEC without the book but failed REG and AUD which is why I am nervous about the latter two. Both scored higher for FAR than me which lead me to conclude the multiple choice questions are not enough. The problem is Ive never been able to learn from reading a textbook. Perhaps its a learning disorder but I would read a paragraph and get literally nothing out of it as if its in foreign language but when I do the multiple choice questions, I get it.

Thanks for all the responses. They were helpful. FAR definitely helped me understand the corporate part of REG but the one part that still puzzles me is the alternative min tax which make sense cuz I never full grasp deferred tax when I was studying for FAR. I was just lucky the exam did not have any questions related to tax.

    @Goingallin

Obviously this argument is going absolutely no where. I have not been sarcastic in anyway towards you. I'm sorry if you feel like my posts are condescending but someone who makes a thread asking “Does anyone else think the REG exam is easy?” is also condescending as well. I don't like to use the word easy around here because there are people who go through hell here and in my opinion calling the exams easy diminishes the sacrifices they go through to try and pass these tests. Maybe we can both try to improve how we word our posts. Even if in your opinion I have been harsh towards you I have tried to answer your question in every single reply I've made.

Good luck studying. If you have any actual REG related questions that you need asking feel free to ask them and I will gladly answer them.

And FYI I said “dude” in a casual conversation sense. I'm not trying to discriminate. It really doesn't matter to me if you are a guy or a girl. I would have said the exact same things regardless of your gender.

    Edit:

Jeff also has a great video on AMT that helped me a lot. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ns6JReRDZbQ. The Yaeger video on the subject is also helpful.

Chris you brought up a good point. If someone feels offended bc someone else thinks the exam is easy than it really is their personal insecurity. Instead of being pissed off, maybe you should step back and remind yourself this is that person's story, not yours.

If everyone on here only comment on how hard the exam is, than we will all be walking around with unnecessary high anxiety. I am grateful when someone say the exam is easier than expected bc it gives me hope. And when someone say the exam is really hard, I study harder.

Would this forum be helpful if we are not honest with our experience?
