I’ve seen a few people on this forum say that hanging CPA certificate/diplomas on the wall in your office is a sign of insecurity.

Is this the general line of thinking? I work in a large regional law firm, and every single lawyer has their diplomas/certificates on the wall. I’m the only CPA and feel like I’ve earned the honor of hanging my achievements on the wall.

I’m just trying to honestly understand this line of thinking. The CPA isn’t easy to obtain. To get here, you usually have completed a post graduate degree. I think it only makes sense to display your achievement in your place of work.

    What am I missing here?

    LOL…exactly.

Raise your hand if you STILL think of Adidas as the shoe RUN DMC wears…

Side note…would RUN DMC have gotten into a different business had they known a bunch of nerdy ass CPAs would be wearing Adidas 30 years later? I like to think so.

Raise your hand if you still feel like 1998 was 10 years ago, and you think having a early 2000's car meant you finally “made it”.

HA! I was a bit of a hippie…to me making it meant I had a custom made Italian bicycle (check!).

Now making it means I can write with a fountain pen WITHOUT getting ink on myself. This is not a realistic goal.

I cannot wait to hang my cert when I finally earn it! I have a spot all ready for it in my office. I currently have my bachelor's and master's hanging in my office along with some other personal achievements (Disneyland half marathon completion certificate, article about my running from the local newspaper, and a picture of my completing the Pikes Peak Ascent). Personally, I don't even care if it's pretentious, when i finish the Pikes Peak Ascent (half marathon up to Pikes Peak at 14,115′) I cried and had never felt more proud. At the office I am known as the runner and therefore others don't find it at all odd that I have running accomplishments hanging up. Every single professional at my firm (small, local cpa firm) has the undergrad and CPA license hanging in their office along with the AICPA cert and State society cert. It's actually cool to see the changes in the certificates from the early 70s to now. My firm also pays for the framing of any degrees and your CPA. I have worked places where you don't want to show too much personality or your outside life, but at my firm, it really is like family. Most offices are heavily decorated. I love looking around my office and seeing pictures of family, friends, vacations, stickers and art projects, and the Bealtes hot wheels cars for my son to play with. My office is welcoming and a place that encourages me to work hard. I often look at my diplomas and the empty spot for my cpa and it gives another push to keep working harder! Wow that was super long, I guess I'm passionate about it!

Anyone who thinks hanging up your certificate is a sign of insecurity is, in fact, an insecure loser who probably cannot pass the exam and doesn't want to know that anybody else did. I had mine framed and hung up in my office the day I got it, and I don't see it coming down anytime soon. I work in public so clients and co-workers see it all the time, I'm the only CPA at the firm other than the partners so I love having it up.

If hanging the symbol of one of your greatest professional achievements in YOUR PLACE OF WORK is insecure then I need help!

I ended up ordering 2 more of those Burns frame.
Arrived in 2 days from Amazon.
Not I have the bachelors, EA and CPA all in matching frames.
They look nice, now I just need to figure out what wall to put them on.

So i went from Public to Government and there are no CPAs in my department. My immediate supervisor has their Masters in Accounting. I just recently passed my exams, do you think it would be douchey of me to hang my certificate in my little cubicle?? haha

Do I think it's douchey? No…do I think it MIGHT cause tension? Maybe…depending on that boss and his insecurity.
