Today the stress has really set in, and I am freaking out. I have 3 weeks to finish 1/2 of my Wiley REG to sit before the end of this window, and busy season is kicking in gear with 50 hour week minimum. So, I was wondering what everyone does to manage their stress level. I will probably partake in a little bourbon this evening. What about you?

I'm an athlete at heart. I had to stop competing so that I could pass this exam. So, what helps me is to hit the gym. It helps to calm me down so my brain isn't bouncing all over the place. Then I can sit down and really focus on what I'm studying. Otherwise my brain is going a million miles a minute and I can't focus. But that's just me 🙂

February 5, 2014 at 7:46 pm #509809ZaqParticipantThe only true relief you get is knowing that you've put all of your available time and effort into studying. If at the end of the day you studied every moment you could make available, take shelter in the fact that you've done all you can. Because that's all you can do.
Stress from the exam usually comes from procrastinating and/or not using your time effectively. It turns into guilt which then turns into stress due to pressure from the clock ticking.
Oh and uh…

February 5, 2014 at 7:53 pm #509813HeartsMimiCPAParticipantHave you tried to lay out how you're going to tackle the rest of the material over the next 3 weeks? Some times having a reasonable plan ahead of me helps keep the stress down, especially if i'm on track.
Also try not to skip too much sleep. You'll be a zombie and probably retain less information.
And yes, alcohol is your friend. ..so is coffee..but coffee isn't a great a friend as alcohol.

February 5, 2014 at 7:59 pm #509815nbad311Memberathlete or not, I agree with F15hy in that a gym session could only help in the midst of a stressful bout of studying (or work, or life!). When I skip too much gym time, I get cranky and sleep poorly. Definitely happened when I was studying more and taking care of myself (physically) less!
but I also agree with inferno in that slacking will cause you to panic; putting in studying time whenever you can will help you stay calm, even if it means you lose a lot of free time to enjoy other things.
cliff notes: bust your ass during the week (or weekend days' morning hours) and try to get in more study hours than you originally thought you would, but try and squeeze in 2-3 workouts in there and leave a night to binge drink on a weekend day PM.

February 5, 2014 at 8:31 pm #509819san4596MemberF1shy – I was running 5K's for a while, and then started the exam. I am now out of shape, and have put on some excess weight. I love the gym, but had to drop my membership a year ago. My goal is to finish the exam by the end of may, and get back to a healthy life. I still do incline pushups on my desk, body weight squats, and other excercises in my office randomly during the day.
Hearts – I do have a plan. Jeff's ELL plan will work. My goal is to finish everything by 2/23, review, and sit for the exam on 2/27. I am also a stickly for 7-8 hours of sleep.

It sounds like you've laid out a nice plan for yourself, so you should feel some relief in that sense. My only suggestion, it looks like you're either planning FAR for May or July, shoot for May, if you fail take it again in July. I studied best when I felt the pressure of an exam coming. So I never left a window idle and I took at least two exams (sometimes 3) per window.
