The IRS is still processing tax returns (I think, at least we can still efile them) but other IRS functions are not happening. Like being able to call the agent who handles your client's audit. I honestly can't figure out if this is good or bad. It seems to me we should automatically get more time on any IRS-related matter. But who knows.

    I second san4596.

Politicians DO NOT have the general public's interest at hand. They spend way to much time arguing over very stupid things. Sadly it's the tax payers that end up paying the price for their incompetence.

Did any one see Ted Cruz talk for 21 hours … WTF was that ? I mean seriously did you listen to what he said. I can't believe you would let someone waste 21 hour talking absolute crap !!!!!!!! Someone should put a muzzle on him.

inisyah24, that the filibuster rule exists is nuts on every level regardless of who chooses to use it. Actually for anyone who chooses to filibuster, you have to wonder what is his or her motivation? It can only be to get attention. It won't affect legislation. Filibustering should just go away IMO.

Does anyone know if this is going to affect getting IRS power of attorney's in the system? This might be a nightmare for the last minute straglers.

If they're not paying the “non-essentials”, then why do Congress still collect paychecks? Half of them don't know what they're doing and just follow the most outspoken person when it comes to passing bills. They don't even read half of the bills that comes across their desks (like “Obamacare”) and complain after the fact.

Yes I was wondering the same thing too. Why does Congress still get paychecks if they go on “strike” ? It does feel like the Govt is going on Strike by shutting down.

I think we should do away with Filibustering too. Esp when it is used like how Ted Cruz did. (Eye rolling). One thing I got back from his rumbling was he watched a lot of movies and even knows the script lines.

I can see now what he does with most of his time and the tax payers money. 😛
