I know we all feel this way and I am most certainly not the only one, but how do I get over feeling so stinking sorry for myself while studying everyday and everyone else gets to just go on with their normal lives and do whatever they want to when they want to. I’ve been down this weekend because most of last week and this weekend my significant other has been away doing “fun” things while I study. This week he is off to watch a baseball game the day before my exam and I’m just feeling sorry for myself and being halfway mean to him. But, this morning he was on his way to work and I called to apologize, so I’m making a step in the right direction. All I want to do is be able to feel like I can visit family, watch a little television, and play with my dog without feeling bad about it. I was hoping to pass all of these exams before I started my job next month so I scheduled them all way too close together. I’ve taken 3 and yet to pass one. Reg is Wednesday and I’m hoping for the best, but still do not feel prepared. Ok, I’m done ranting…

@jrd56202, I was a teacher for 5 years, passed 2 parts of the Praxis with no studying, one part I was 99th percentile. “Not even the same sport”-Jules

I went on a massive depression “bender” in December after failing FAR/AUD for the first time, and making a showing at Thanksgiving to eat and leave to study another 6-8 hours.

I was so miserable I couldn't stand it! My great boss told me a few stories, for what it's worth, I think only entrepreneurs have a clue of the amount of work we are putting in, and even then I think do more 🙂

He said life had gotten the best of him several times over the years (he is 72) and it took several attempts before he had a successful go of a business. Most importantly though was keeping your chin up, and gloves up because we're in the ring with Life, and Life is a real SOB that wants to beat the snot out of you. That pity party we throw ourselves usually happens after getting a good knock on the chin, Life doesn't let up at that point, and neither can you! Life keeps punching, kicking and attempting to take a crap all over you. We have to get up and start throwing our own punches right back!

Since that little motivation, I still failed FAR once, and despite the minor “annoyance” of not being done before the baby was born by 1 $%^ing point, I never let that get me down, I just chugged right along and kicked the crap out of BEC. Today, with 12 days to go, I am so confident in my FAR abilities that there is no chance of failing. AND EVEN IF I DID FAIL! I would reschedule 48 hours later and go restart from scratch, and wreck it's day in October.

For what it's worth, I've never had this level of confidence going into an exam, and I've still managed to pass 3, but it makes me that more excited about Aug 23.

Keep your gloves up, and go wrestle Life down to the ground until he quits breathing.

@tomq04 Wow I hope to have that same kind of confidence one day! That is amazing and I love your positive attitude! You are so right though with everything you said. Good luck and knock FAR out of the park the 23rd!!!!

I think the CPA exam should be taken when you are either single or your significant other is as busy as you are. One of my friends just got a divorce after studying for 15 months while only passing 2 parts. His ex-wife just got sick of him being so persistent at passing an exam that according to her, he should have stopped taking after his third failed exam. While you study for this exam, people continue to live their life, and you can’t drag them into your lonely world of studying. I’m glad they don’t have any kids.

Yeah, it would be much easier taking it when single.

I failed all 4 before passing any one. I live in a beach city where it's sunny and 75 degrees year round. Meaning year round people were having parties, friends having birthdays, events every weekend, happy hours, yet I had to say no to a lot of it. Now I am done and can say YES to everything! I was pretty much single the entire time and feel it was HARDER because I could never have a nice Friday night in with my boyfriend cus I didn't have one and no time to find one!

I started Oct 2012, so I had to pick and choose the things I wanted to attend… and it was very hard. I did feel bad for myself all the time. “Boohooo… no one cares that I am reading about stockholder's equity cus they are all at our bar drinking beer with friends.” It never went away until I passed, so you just have to keep on going and GET THEM DONE!

Yeah I can't imagine living at the beach and trying to take this thing. I love the outdoors and especially love the ocean. Just gotta get through it like everyone else!
