It’s been awhile since I have posted on A71. This is a great site with a lot of resources and support. A71 definitely helped me get through the rigorous CPA Exam process!!

I am starting at a small firm as a Staff Tax Accountant. The firm has 2 offices with about 25 employees.

What kind of “Messenger Bag/Briefcase style with Strap” should I purchase to carry my belongings??

I have a nice Kenneth Cole type that is black and leather with enough room for my belongings, but not too bulky. It’s pretty nice.

Is that kind of messenger bag too nice and will the partners be offended by it? I bought it for $100, but it retails for around $300… I may return it and get something that is not black and leather…

Accountants I come into contact with, as a group, are unpretentious and unlikely to care. You do you and what seems appropriate. I wouldn't do something to be noticed, but if I liked a fancy bag, I'd use it.

My parents got me this super fancy, clearly $$$ desk plate with my name and CPA title. It struck me as a bit gaudy, but truthfully I love it. It's wood, brass and it;s from my parents. I'm at a small, humble firm. I brought it in, waited…and they liked it.

Get a Hermes brief case. Brioni suits and some ferragamo shoes.

Congrats on the new position. Wear what ever feels comfortable, and get something to keep your laptop safe. Some of those bags are very flimsy.

Thanks guys for your help. I was thinking about returning it just bc I don’t want to rub people he wrong way. But, the bag is nice and has plenty of useful pockets and not oversized.

Also, Goodluck to everyone still pushing on with these Exams. The Exams are Brutal, but U have to keep on Pushing and Grinding. Don’t let a few fails make you quit. You CAN and WILL pass these Exams is u make Sacrifces, give 110%, and Don’t Give Up – True Story!!

Those are real brands but currently out of my budget. They will cost you anywhere from 10 to 20g potentially for a a bag, one suit and a pair of shoes.

Funny that you and I passed the same exams the same number of times. Cool coincidence man

Lol. I thought u may have been joking bc I had no idea what u were talking about! That’s wayyyyy out of my budget! And, that is cool we passed exams in the same number of attempts per exam. Guess our brains are wired pretty similarly? Lol.
