Any advice on level of Excel knowledge before beginning my first year in public accounting? Also, any online Excel training programs anybody knows of? I don’t start until the fall but I want to practice over the summer. Any help is very much appreciated!

*Note: changed data and erased some so it doesn't show my financial info so it no longer it reconciles but I want my materiality variance to be under 5.00 or less otherwise I explain it to myself in comments (but I erased them all…lol). **Note I purposely use cash every month so I can reconcile it with my bank(and when they ask for receipt (only for food) I always say no because if I don't remember it on my own then I don't want to count it*). Because I only keep track of cash I should round my purchases to dollars but I don't so I'm fine with it being a few dollars off. Sometimes I forget to put in on my spreadsheet because I'm busy and that's when I'm usually off.

    l. I'd explain it but sometimes the best way to learn is to try to figure it out yourself and then you can ask questions if you want. You can use mine or create your own to practice reconciling. Or try and make something similar. I used vertex and awincalender to create my custom templates*.

I purchased this course on Udemy the other day. https://www.udemy.com/the-complete-financial-analyst-course/

Haven't had a chance to check it out yet, but it was only $15 so I figured why not. It seems to cover a lot of the things we should know and I like having a structured course to go through. If I don't like it I can always get a refund.

+1 for the books Bobby suggested. I have worked through both. I had a pretty strong foundation in excel from being involved with spreadsheets put together by financial analysts right out of college going right into industry so I learned a lot just by seeing the formulas they used and how they interacted with the data. I still learned a bunch from those books and it showed me more efficient ways to cut out unnecessary steps I was taking.
