MemberThe GMAT was like a walk in the park compared to the CPA exam.
Due to my University's policy changes I would be accepted into Grad school a semester early if I was able to meet the qualifications before the cutoff date. This gave me only one week (spring break) to study and take it. So I bought a study guide from Amazon and worked through it for the week, taking the exam that Friday (the day after my birthday).
I took it and met the requirements – by the time I graduated with my Bachelor's Degree that year, I was a 1/4 way through my Master's 🙂
Good Luck

ParticipantSO glad that I didn't have to take the GMAT for my program!!! My MAC program accepted either a qualifying score on the GMAT or a combo of high undergrad GPA+qualfying work experience+admissions interview. I figured the worst case scenario was they wouldn't accept my GPA/Work/Interview combo and I'd have to take the GMAT anyways so why not give it a shot…and it worked! 🙂 Standardized tests are awful!!!!
REG: 75 DONE 🙂
AUD: 61, 71, 68, 92 DONE 🙂
BEC: 76 DONE 🙂
FAR: 72, 74, 79 DONE 🙂

ParticipantWell I guess for most people the GMAT is easier. If you're good at reasoning through a wide variety of topics and information, then the GMAT would be easier. My biggest skill with the CPA exam is knowing the concept, applying the process of elimination, and reasoning through the remaining 2 answers. That's how I study and that's what makes studying for the CPA exam easy. I can't really do that with the GMAT because I don't want to deal with it…lol. It's boring to me and I get a kick out of accounting.

MemberMan, I really suffered from GMAT Verbal!
I grew up in the country where English is not used primarily. It was very difficult for me to get satisfactory score from Verbal.
I didn't have any problem doing the math. I got 50 out of 51 for Math, but had 22? 32? (I don't clearly remember it was 4 years back) from Verbal. It was a lot of frustration :-/
Currently:
CPA - Class of 2013
ALMI (Associate, Life Management Institute)
CISA - Passed in 2011, Certified in 2014In Progress:
ASA (Associate of Society of Actuaries) - EXAM P (O), EXAM FM (O), EXAM MFE (X), EXAM MLC (X), EXAM C (X)March 5, 2014 at 4:03 pm #523669Kay

I think 2012 version should be ok. It is not about regulatory requirements, or anything. Just your comprehension, and math skills.
