just want to complain how stupid the test is! So, today, I went to have General Accounting Assessment Test required by employer for a job I really interviewed with. I thought I passed 3 sections of CPA exam, what else can be in my way! Nah~~~ I were totally wrong. The questions seems simple, I am very confident I should at least get 90%, but turned out to be 71% ! Well , I don’t know what will the employer say, questioned my accounting knowledge? Anyway, this just pissed me off 🙁

Do you remember what company it was from? I'm curious about the content of it… I'd looked for something similar last year when we were interviewing candidates for an open position, then decided that “book knowledge” wasn't really the route we wanted to go. Were the questions more bookkeeping-oriented instead of law/regulation oriented? (I feel like the CPA exams were more focused on the rules than the how-to.) There's so many different ways of assessing accounting knowledge that you may find that your 71% was one of the highest scores they got!

Lilla, thank you for the encourage! you sure make me feel a little bit better. It was for a governmental job, accounting clerk potion. The questions cover very basic topics, some terminologies. I have higher score in advanced questions than intermediate questions which is so weird! I feel like I focused on very difficult questions like CPA exam, so ignore the basic concept. there are a couple of Petty Cash questions I have never reviewed, when prepared CPA, got wrong!

I don't think you need to feel about it. After I have passed the 4 exams, I took a similar exam from Proveit for a senior accountant position at a F500 company. And I scored 74% on it. Luckily, it wasn't the CPA exam, otherwise it would be a failing score LOL. That exam covered all the materials from BEC, FAR, REG and AUD. It was pretty hard.

Lilla – when I interned in a revenue accounting department, they had put together a little exam for people they were interviewing for full-time positions but it was mostly about excel skills… were they able to use sumifs for an AR aging, vlookups, pivot tables. Of course, you needed to know what an AR aging was.

I was the guinea pig to see if the instructions/what they were asking for made sense. I think it's good you decided to go a different route because honestly, in the books, everything ties out perfectly, you're not looking some reconciling items, or you don't have one off transactions.

But to add to these exams they give interview candidates, I hate those ones that small accounting firms give asking you to pick all the words that describe you and then to pick all the words that you feel people expect you to be.

Hey, guys. Thanks a lot! I really really really hope I can get this job. Haven't receive any notification from them yet, so I am crossing my finger, hope I will get it.
