Career/Resume/Interview – One of the best tips I have for interviews is to remember everyone's name when you are introduced to them. This may seem like a no-brainer, but when you are nervous from interviewing, it can be easy to forget. Also, act as if you are interviewing your potential employer. Ask meaningful questions that will show your interviewer you're really interested in the role and company. (ex. “What are some opportunities for improvement within the department?, What does success look like in this role? What are the company's plans for growth (or fill in the blank) within the next 5 years?”)

[CPA Exam] – For MC questions, skip to the end of the question and read what the question is asking you, and then go back and read the entire question. It'll help in knowing what you're looking for.

[Career/Resume/Interview] Something that always helped me with getting the interview, especially from during college career events, was sending nice, short and thoughtful thank you emails. Most folks do not do this and I have heard time and time again from interviewers, that they love the thank you notes! Also this is a way for them to remember who you are! It has worked for me at least to get an interview and most times to get the job.

Interview- Always have questions in mind to ask you interviewer, do research on the company you are interviewing with, and send a thank you note to your interviewer. It will make you stand out!

[Interview] Research the company and the job position that you are applying for. Always ask questions and always send in a thank you email to the person who you interviewed with, or to the recruiter and ask them to convey the message.

[CPA Exam] Read from the last answer up i.e. D -> A. I'm a speed reader so I tend to skip or rush past key details, add in test day nerves and it's even worst. This technique forces me to slow down, digest the information and not just pick the first few answers I see. Also, this helps me slightly break up the monotony of staring at the screen and zoning out.

    CPA exam (study)

Make your own flashcards. I made mine with both question and answer on same side, because it annoys me to flip cards.

[CPA Exam] I had success by re-writing to memorize my note to pass my exams BEC and AUD. I am currently re-writing my REG notes to memorize them. Next, I will do the same with my last FAR exam. There is a lot of material that needs to be understood and memorized. Mnemonics are also helpful in memorizing but best is if you memorize your entire notes.

I have found that staying at work for an extra 2 hours mon-thur has been working for me much better than trying to come home and study. I am way more focused and much less distracted by things like my dog and the tv and my fiancé.

    INTERVIEW

Be confident. Know what your strengths are and do not be afraid or intimidated to speak up and talk about them. This is typically not as difficult for men, but many women can have a hard time telling a hiring manager about their strengths. Practice before-hand and be ready to name your accomplishments.

(CPA Exam) If you don't know the answer, skip it! Don't waste valuable time. Come back to it, and if you still can't figure it out at least guess!!

[CPA Exam] Take advantage of Ninja MCQ's! There is no package that offers this quantity and quality of questions out there. Make sure you get up to the review stage and trend in the mid-80's. Real exam scores closely follow the trending score!

[Public Accounting] Take notes on everything you're told when you get a new engagement. There's so much multi-tasking that you WILL forget small things that you think are impossible to not remember.

Don't get work email on your phone until you have to.

It's every man for himself when it comes to free snacks left in the kitchen.

[CPA Exam]Here a couple of examples of when to start each testlet:
    4 Hour Exams
    4:00
    3:15
    2:30
    1:45
    3 Hour Exams
    3:00
    2:25
    1:50
    1:15
Also, take at least one break. I recommend one before the 4th testlet at minimum. It will help get your blood pumping to your brain! 🙂

[CPA Exam] Read the last sentence first when you see an MCQ with numbers as the answers.
