[CPA EXAM] When coming up with a study plan, it cannot be overstated that you be realistic with your time frame from day one to exam day. Use quantitative goals to achieve each day, i.e. read one chapter a day and take notes or rewrite ninja notes (highly recommended), or do 90-100 Ninja MCQ a day. Be consistent and disciplined with your study routine, so that it becomes second nature.

It's okay to enjoy something you like to do every so often to keep you motivated to study, but constantly remind yourself why you're on this journey to pass the CPA Exam. Then you will never lose focus on your goal. Try to get enough rest throughout your studying, so your brain functions at its most optimal state.

Sex before an exam won't have the same negative effects like it does to fighters before a big fight.

[Resume] Don't just list job tasks as if you were a robot performing a set of routines. Including specific things you accomplished in a position will help make you stand out more.

[CPA EXAM] Practice the sims – don't assume because you know the concepts for the MCQ that you don't need to.

    CPA EXAM:

Write out your NINJA notes over and over, do as many MCQ's as you possibly can. Try not to get bogged down by the questions on exam day. If you don't know the answer as soon as you read through the question, flag it and go on to the next one so you don't waste time.

    Public Accounting

If you decide to take you career in this direction, there are a few important factors you need to keep in consideration. You will be working 40 to 70 hrs a week, depending on the size of your firm and your specialized area (tax, audit, consulting, etc). But your salary will compensate for the work load. You may also spend time traveling due to your specialized area. These are important items to think about depending on the point you are in your life. Do you have 4 small kids or are you young and care free? Think about this as you make your career choice. Best of luck!!!

[Career] Don't be afraid to push a question to later. If you're not 100% sure, don't say I think, say let me look into it.

    INTERVIEW

At the end of your interview, when the employer asks you whether you have any questions, say yes and always ask several questions, even if it's based on what you just talked about. At the end, always ask: “Do you have any reservations about me being a good fit for the position that I may try to address right now?” It's been my always go to question and employers always seem to appreciate it.

[CPA Exam] Before going to test be aware of how much time needs to be allocated per testlet and how many minutes per question you have. Once you're in the exam ensure to keep track of this and adjust accordingly so that you do not run out of time in the end.

From my experience sitting for FAR three weeks ago here are my main two tips.

    1. Becker SIMS are less time consuming than the exam SIMS. For me, the following time plans worked to the minute perfectly.
MCQ testlet 1: 30 mins (projected easier difficulty than next two testlets)
    MCQ testlet 2: 45 mins
    MCQ testlet 3: 45 mins
    SIM testlet: 2 Hours!

    2. When taking Becker/Ninja MCQs you will be tested on known topics (topics covered in the learning materials). When taking the CPA exam you will be blindsided with questions that are in no way covered in the materials you studied. Don't be thrown off, assume that the question is a pre-test and take your best guess, but don't feel like you're going to fail due to the blindsided questions.

[CPA Exam] Think positive… Nothing is impossible.
I went back to college at late 40s and became an accountant. Of course, English is my second language. After more than 10 years later, I thought CPA exam is impossible task for me. But, after I watched Instructor Monette's video sent to me by Jeff, I know I will pass the CPA Exam with this program.

[CPA Exam] Don't be afraid to reread some of your old textbooks to fill in the gaps of your knowledge. It can be very helpful to take a look back to supplement your learning.

[CPA Exam]: Put a sticker note on the wall in front of your desk: “CPA exam ! I can do it” or “REG- 4Q, I can do it”. Every time you feel not want to study but to give up, look at that note and read it again to remind yourself of your goals.

    CPA Exam

For REG, and every other exam, slow down and read the details of the question. Small items such as dates, amounts and other key words will change the basis of the question. An example I have run into studying for REG is when asked to calculate either total income or taxable income a shareholder recognizes from an S Corp. These amounts will be different if dividends are distributed because S Corps do not tax dividends but the dividends would be added to total income recognized.
