For motivation

I’ve been posting here over the two years that I’ve been in this battle. I took 9 exams, failing 5 and passing my 4th exam yesterday. I am still in shock. I am just writing a quick note to those of you struggling with this. Because if I can do this, you definitely can as well.

I graduated in 2001 with an economics degree from a Big Ten university. (for what its worth I didn’t exceed in my accounting courses.) Worked in banking and then mortgage banking and got crushed by the 2007 crash. Had a revelation, got lucky and landed a job at a small public accounting firm. Then, I immediately went back to school to get my 30 hours in accounting and started a long , challenging road of making it in public accounting and school at night. I met my wife and had my first child just as I finished the 30 hours. I made a big mistake by not rolling right into the CPA exam at that point. Thinking it would be easier when my kid was just ‘ a little bit older, ‘ I put it off until 2013, when my second kid was 2.

My first three scores were 74,72,71. I felt defeated. I had been busting my tail for years now and I got no break. Helping wife and kids, and cramming in tax seasons, maintaining charity work, and then studying in the early AM and late PM , I am very much exhausted and foggy even now as I write this. This year the stars aligned and we sold our house , moved into an apartment temporarily for 3 months , and then into a new house. I still managed to juggle all this and pass FAR just last week.

I read other people’s stories on this forum over the years and they helped me push forward. Make your vision board. Get an accountability partner. Make your daily task lists. Get to the Review Stage in Ninja MCQ. And if you get knocked down, get back up and shake it off. Just do not give up!! I hope a part of this speaks to you. People came here before me and wrote their stories and they helped me. I will have my license soon and I can taste the freedom already. I will be able to watch Star Wars next week, guilt free.

Good luck and thanks again to Jeff and all of you that offered your support and encouragement. I do believe it helps.

    Congrats!

I'll add to this. My tax teacher passed me b/c she liked me and believed in me. I should have failed. I just passed REG on my first try. Just have to focus.

    -----------------------------
    BEC - 77, 03/2015 (first try)
    FAR - 79, 05/2015 (second try)
    REG - 83, 12/2015 (first try)
    AUD - 84, 03/2015 (first try)

I got 99 problems but the CPA ain't one.
