    Hey Guys,
I just wanted some space to vent and this forum is prob the best since others understand. Recently, I had a family issue (a close relative passed away) that caused me to postpone my FAR retake to November. I haven’t studied for the past 2 weeks and feel like I already forgot a lot of previous chapter materials. Im hoping to pick the study back up this weekend. My becker expires this come March and have only passed 1 section this past June. It seems like I have wasted 4 months of my time…the 18 month window does go quick. initially I thought I would pass REG in August and study for FAR retake and get that out in OCT then be done with AUD by year end. It seems like that won’t be the case. I just feel very stressed out with the CPA studying on top of personal issues and work. I really want to be done before the changes but Im losing confidence.. Anyone ever felt this way?

Yes. I failed one section, BEC, and I'm jobless. I feel ashamed of myself. I thought perhaps, this isn't for me but I'm here trying to put in the hours. Trying to study. You have to be resilient my friend and study as if you were learning. I'm sure even though u failed a section, you could recall the information. All is not lost. Just keep going and make sure to cultivate tiny habits if its hard for you to study. Ex) 50 MCQs, book and sims. Make it short. Once you get started, it becomes a habit. Doesn't matter how small as long as u start.

Hey! Btw, if you say you want to finish the exam before the changes, make sure to focus on BEC – > REG – > AUD – > FAR. In this order. I wouldn't be too worried about changes in FAR and AUD.

Hey, thanks for the advice and the exam order! I think that really helps. Luckily, Ive passed BEC so REG is my next target. I will definitely try setting a goal rather than just doing as many mcq as possible (which was how I studied in the past). I think slowing down and let the material sink in will definitely help on the retakes. I think the biggest issue is also the TBS. I always get weaker on those.

I just need to find a way to get myself back up over these constant problems I'm facing. Best of luck to you!

@ OP, we are in the same boat. I failed FAR twice, studying for AUD but so behind in schedule due to lot of personal issues. I have heard people saying that you will pass CPA if you want it really bad but sometimes circumstances are such you have no control on it. My focus is also on REG AND BEC next but I have also lost confidence if I will ever pass CPA.

I will not give up but at the same time I don't want to spend too much time doing this especially with family and small kids.

    Lets do this!!!

    FAR - August 2016
    AUD - September 2016
    REG - October 2016
    BEC - November 2016

@spartan92 – I haven't had much in the way of family issues plaguing me, but I have been in such a rut and I feel you. I'm gearing up for my 3rd REG attempt and have 0 motivation. I passed BEC LAST OCT. Finally passed FAR in Aug, but see these people here passing 1st try every try and I feel so lame. OK, so this is not an encouraging post so far – let's see. 1) You're not alone haha. 2) Hey, the Giants just won the wild card game. YES. 3) We gotta stick together. This forum is the boss. Vent away, browse and commiserate. Then get back to it. Having a plan and little goals makes a big difference to me. Even if it's just 30 MCQs tonight. 35 MCQs tomorrow. So you chip away at your work load. You won't get anywhere unless you make a plan and set goals.

    party on.

@senseiskinhead – do not feel ashamed! Look how many times I've failed. And I'm not even one of the strong ones. There are amazing people on here who have taken FAR like 9 times. That is real! We've got a lot of people trudging through these, don't let a fail get you down. My first test was BEC, and it was a 74. The worst. Stick around here and we'll get us all through.

@Spartans92- First of all I am so sorry on the passing of your relative and all the family issues that come with it- I understand all to well and yes on top of everything else it can feel like the hammer that is finally going to pound you down.

first and foremost HANG IN THERE…. keep in mind why you are doing this –my BEC fail absolutely slayed me…I mean it really and truly killed me to the point of giving up- and it really helped for me to regroup and remember why the eff I was doing this in the first place….

Secondly there is “no prize” for finishing it all the fastest. I KNOW we all want to finish this up before the changes come- but be realistic.. I keep reminding myself “slow and steady wins the race”… as much as I really really really want to be done… and as much as I really really do not want to take the new version of this thing… bottom line is that I would rather take my time and be confident in the material rather than trying to cram it all in and face another failure. At least for me failure hurts worse than the new exam ever will 😉

Thirdly take care of yourself first! Get yourself mentally prepared and if you need to take the time off to deal with everything you will be much better off in the long run. (trust me on this one). Don't beat yourself up… but at the same time don't use it as a crutch for not studying.

Fourthly just to give you incentive – I'll be in the FAR study room after my oct 13th BEC retake and hey who can pass up re-creating that second quarter FAR magic we had going on in there ha ha ha ha ha….

    Hang in there.

@spartan92 spartan look at my signature. I did fail my far in June and moved on to take BEC and gave my self 5 weeks to do mcqs only for my far retake. I was able to pass the retake in such a short interval. You can, and you will pass.

You can pass and you will pass. Failing is a tough pill to swallow but understand that it doesn't mean you can't ever pass it. My condolences to your family for your loss. The fact that you passed BEC means you don't have to take the new version, YEEEE!! I know everyone wants to PASS an exam the FIRST time. But doesn't the victory smell just as sweet or even sweeter when you KNOW you worked extra hard for it?

You have a good 2 months until the last day of testing window, 12/10, which is also the day of my REG test. You have a SOLID time period to study and pass REG. I haven't even studied for it yet. I might move the test since it does seem like a long amount of time. But if you set a schedule and stick to it, it is more than possible to pass. I am using Roger and honestly, he always says it in his lectures. “If you study, you WILL pass.”

For my FAR, I did study but I didn't make an effort to study and fully understand everything. For my FAR retake, I looked at it as a new exam and where I had SOME prior knowledge of the material. I studied each section to the point where I at least understood any question there is, and if so, make a reasonable guess. FAR is a beast, not because it is hard, but the amount of material. If I happened to know stockholder's equity well, I might forget some Gov't. Make sure you spread out your focus. But do spend extra time on the core subjects (Gov't & NPF).

    Good luck.

Spartans, Kanwal, McKan – we are all still here since like February when we were all still studying for FAR. Guess what? I'm still studying for FAR! This will be my 3rd attempt, but I feel like it's only my 2nd bc the first time I took it I know I wasn't prepared but I didn't want to waste a testing window. And I still need to pass Reg! I scored higher on FAR (68), than highest attempt at REG (67). So yea this crap ain't easy!

Anyhoo, Spartans, you are not alone! This test for people who don't crack it within 6 months are the ones whose determination and will are also tested. I've cried over this exam several times but I try to remember, it doesn't matter how long it takes to get this done bc the time will pass anyways.

Hi Claudia408!!! Missed that Kanwal is still here as well– ha ha ha we are a sad FAR bunch aren't we???? When is your FAR re-sit? I am doing my BEC re-sit on the 13th and then will be heading over to FAR… I like how you said that your third time is like your second– I am going into this one thinking I have never taken FAR before because honestly I was so unprepared last time that it is like I have never done this before.

    HANG IN THERE Spartan!!!

My FAR peoples…..we are not sad- just dedicated. lol My condolences to everyone who has had losses while studying. That really puts things in perspective for sure. Everyone is different and the measure of success is not one score on an exam. Success comes from trying to succeed.

Good luck everyone! I sit Oct 20, and I have one more shot by Jan 31 before I lose REG.
