I am fully licensed now after dedicating a year to studying for the CPA exam.

I feel empty after work, like all of my purpose has gone.. Don’t get me wrong, I hated studying for this test, but now I have a void with all this free time.

I’m debating about going for the PMP just so I can have something to do for a few months, but then I worry after I finish that..

Anyone else go through this void?

This is how I felt when I first graduated college and started working full time before I started my CPA journey. I was looking into finding things to volunteer for to feel like my time wasn't just wasted on endless hours of Netflix. You could look into something like that!

I long for the day where I can watch endless hours of Netflix and talk with my wife and actually be able to listen to what she is saying. Be happy you passed and find something to fill that void. Start taking on more at work, volunteer your time.

Yes @trele6 I feel the exact same way. I always thought that when the CPA was over I would never study anything else again. However, now that its over I can't help but want to go after something else! I've been looking into the CMA exam and am thinking about starting that following busy season.

I feel the same way as you. Which is why I'm still in school. Two bachelors, an MBA, currently doing and MS in Finance. Looking at law school and or a PhD right after. Or both.
Also looking to take the Actuarial Exams too and or the CFA.
I get scolded to work, but I love being in school. but as soon as I am done studying for an exam I feel very empty and look for the next thing. It is like my drug.

I feel ya. I started this journey for more money and a new job title it looks like that will happen beginning next fiscal year. So, after all this work I keep my same basic job with a new title and more money. I'm not saying I'm not thankful because I am, but it just seems a little anti-climactic. So, everyone who is studying tonight please feel sorry for me because all I have to do is spend time with my kids and binge watch reruns of Lost on Netflix 🙂

YES! I was expecting to feel lighter, happier, all gung-ho to do other things – I remember daydreaming when I was studying about all the Netflix I would watch, the runs I would go on, conquering the world, frolicking in fields of daisies…instead I felt depressed. I couldn't explain it to anyone and I’m still not really sure how to make sense of it….but I am starting to find my new normal. I guess the biggest thing for me was my world revolved that test for a year and I was on such a strict schedule for studying that when I didn’t have that anymore everything fell apart. It all sounds so stupid, but it sort of makes sense…I mean take away anything that you devote a large portion of your life to and all of sudden it’s hard to function because that thing you use to cater to and work around is gone.

I’m not saying I wish I was still studying, because I don’t, it’s just not as easy of an adjustment as I thought it would be.

I'm jealous, but happy for you that you are done.

I'm looking forward to being active in my community, volunteering and joining organizations. Also, working out and spending time with my husband. I have long list of catch up items. I'm going to clean out every drawer in my house and organize. I'm going to visit family and friends. I'm going to engage and eat lunch in the lunchroom with my co-workers. I'm going to read non accounting material. I will be putting a lot of extra energy into my job as well.

Well…hopefully this was the last one for me. I start a new job with a very small tax firm on Monday, so I doubt I'll have much down time. After tax season I think I'll pick up a cert in contracts management just because it's low hanging fruit.
