    Hello Ninjas

I would very much appreciate anyone’s opinion on how many weeks is needed to study for FAR? I will be using Wiley CPAexcel and it will be my first time. I intend to take notes and yes I’m a slow note taker. This is probably my weaker area but I have been told that FAR is what I should start with. I will have about 3-4 hours per day to study. I would like to get started Sept 25th and take the exam by Dec 9th which is a little over 10 weeks. I really don’t see how people can get this done in 6-8 weeks with all the material that Wiley provides and obtain an in-depth understanding. Please provide your valuable opinion.

I used Wiley and it took me close to 3 months to get thru all the material, I probably spent around 300 hours studying. It might have been more than needed, but I passed on the first try that's all that matters.

The “pundits” (various prep providers) say unscientifically that FAR is 90-150 hrs. Like @Observant08 said – my number was over 250 (with one fail). A fail is costly to time. But plenty of people have done it in 6-8 weeks and in fewer hours. I used Becker but I needed Ninja to pass. Notes to give a good structure to the incredible vastness of the exam and MCQ to get very good distribution and understanding of the types and difficulty of questions.

As a data point – Becker is about 30 hours of video for FAR plus MCQ/reading/sims/mock exams (if you take them).

But I like to point out that the exam is MCQ and sims – so why not focus time on that after getting the basics with video or whatever your learning style is.

I did 1200+ MCQ for FAR and about 30 sims (before the Q2 changes). Now I would say do double that many sims and at least as many questions.

Your prep method should tell you when you're nearing readiness. I know Ninja does – if Wiley does not – then that may be a consideration.

200-300 hours depending on your background. Sure, you can study 150 hours and give it a shot, but I wouldn't. Especially with the new exams.

Study until you know the material inside and out and you are pretty miserable. That's my advice.

    Goodluck 🤓
