Over the past month or two I’ve been looking for Condos/working Full-Time/studying for the CPA and now its crunch time b/c of course everything has come down to the wire at the same time. I’m 26 and I just couldn’t help but feel that I wasn’t getting anywhere in life by continuing to live with my parents…… I finally found a Condo I loved and I’m pursuing it and I have the inspections, the dealings with attorneys, Sellers, Agents, etc and I have my cousins wedding this Saturday that I cannot miss which leaves me with just the rest of today, Sunday night, and Monday-Thursday to get my FAR scores up and bring my confidence up enough to go into the exam feeling prepared and that there is a chance of passing…..

One thing I have on my side is that I took FAR once already so it wasn’t as if it is the first time preparing for it but with everything that I (willingly) took on while studying may have screwed me up. Along with all of this, my gf and I have gone back and forth about her moving in and I’m against it simply because I want to be alone with no distractions so I can literally dedicate every free second to the exam. This doesn’t usually go over well which was/is causing tension in our relationship which is also impairing my ability to really focus and study. Not making excuses I just don’t know where else to go to vent since I do not know anyone who has taken any exam like the CPA before and know how much of a grueling process it can be.

Any advice on how to use my remaining time? I will be off from work Tues-Fri, and my exam is Friday morning so I figure I’ll just continuously do as many questions as possible. My only fear is that everything will kind of jumble up together and I won’t actually understand the concept. For some odd reason Gov’t and NFP are actually where I’m scoring strongest and unfortunately those two topics are tested the least. I have hundreds of index cards that I run through and I listen to Ninja CPA on my commute to and from work, I just can’t seem to get my scores up and it doesn’t seem like I’m improving which is very concerning.

My apologies for the long post, this just has all been boiling up inside of me for quite sometime…..

First of all, congrats on the new place! It can be difficult and time consuming to get a new place. I experience this when I purchased my home a few years ago. You can imagine how lost I was (I was only 22). I would recommend, holding off on the house until September. That way you can focus. As far as the whole GF thing. Take a $100 bill and show it to your girl. Explain to her that there could be a lot more of them if you passed the exam. That should clear up some things.

Good luck taking FAR! I will be taking it the same day actually. I am hoping to finally get the big monster FAR out of the way!

Whether you are the lion or the gazelle, when the sun comes up, you'd better be running.

Good luck. My test is the 30th and I have a lot on my plate too. Just make priorities and you will be fine.

I also have an easier than what seems to be normal time with governmental and nfp. Together they make up 20% of the test, so they are definitely not tested the least.

    Good luck!

    FAR - 08/30/15 - 90
    AUD - 11/12/15 - 92
    REG - 01/19/16 - 82
    BEC - 02/29/16 - 83

Passed all on 1st attempt using GLEIM (full program) and NINJA (MCQ only)!!!

Why is it that studying for any section seems like the best time to make major life changes?

One thing that helps me is to attempt to quantify what I don't know. I got this great advice for re testing and time is closing in on you.

I do 10 MCQ's in each subject. Based on the scores I rank the subjects from worst score to best. I start with my worst score and do 10 question sets until I am scoring 80% (ie: if I score 80% I retake a set of 10, 80% or higher score I move to the next subject). I work through any subject with a score lower than 80%. Ideally I will get through all the subjects and can retake each subject in a 10 MCQ set to see improvement. Once I have the subjects at 80% I tackle the Sims using my original ranking.

I do not worry about time during this, I worry about understanding the question. If I get a long calculation question I solve for everything I can (ie: I calculate all the partners capital accounts or why an answer is wrong) and write down in a separate notebook any and all little nuggets I “get” while going through the questions.

Hope this helps, as I also plan on unpacking right after the exam and month end close….. 🙂
