Statistically I thought I wouldn’t pass. Not only didn’t I pass I got a 65! Which for me I’m SHOCKED. This was supposed to be my “easy” one. And there were no areas during where I thought “I have no idea what this question is asking.” I felt alright coming out but I had done 3,000 questions!

Rogers course, Wiley test bank. 100% of lectures complete, got 100% on quizzes before moving on, 100% of simulations completed with an average score of 92%, 92% of Wiley MCQs and 100% of Wiley simulations.

Studied 50-60 hours a week from 9/01 to 11/21. HOW IN THE HECK DID I DO THAT POORLY?

I am at a loss on where to begin. I have BEC scheduled on 1/30–do I push it out to April 1st or try for February 28? And do FAR on 1/31? Or other way around? Do I start with lectures, and MCQs and SIMS? At 60 hours a week it took me 3 months I’m not sure what to do. Most of my friends who didn’t pass didn’t study as much as me. I’m so disappointed. I don’t know my weak areas I didn’t feel like I had too many during the test. My low score indicates the things I thought I knew — clearly I didn’t. Don’t you wish you could see the final results graded?? 🙂

    HELP guys!

FAR: 65 (still drying my tears) 2nd attempt: 7/2016
BEC: 81 5/2016 (WOO FIRST PASS!)
    REG: 5/2016
    AUD: 8/2016

THANK YOU SO MUCH! I really feel better knowing there are people going through the same things that I am. As frustrating as it is.

For those that studied 50-60 hours does that mean in addition to the lectures? I have Roger's course and his lectures alone are 50 hours. Plus there are like 2,000 MCQ's and I bought another 1,800 from Wiley's Test Bank.

I didn't feel blindsided in the test so I thought I knew the answers but clearly didn't — that's scary for me. Non profit and government are my strong points (having both of those in my background but I've been doing corporate accounting for 10+ years now). The rest I'll have to re-learn.

Good idea about writing down why got the answers wrong. I'll try that. At this point I'll try just about anything.

I have FAR rescheduled for 1/30 and I have BEC scheduled for 2/28. Friends said a month is do-able considering my study schedule. I hate that March is closed. I am afraid I'll fail REG and AUD my first time (since I have no background in any of that) and I'm trying to get this all done before 2017 changes everything. I can't afford to keep failing. Is there a scholarship fund or personal line of credit for those attempting this? Haha. That was a joke.

THANK YOU ALL AGAIN. I really appreciate it. Some had tough love but tons of encouragement. Thank you.

PS. You'd think after paying $400 we'd get a better performance report. Mine didn't help much. Yes I realize I was weaker than those that passed. Duh. Hah.

FAR lectures take 50-60 hours so you can't study for 50-60 hours and pass. FAR's material is too lengthy. I will also suggest not to rush while you're listening to lectures/reading text. If your mind is in it then don't keep reading for the sake of finishing it. Same goes for the MCQ. Don't try to clock yourself unless you're doing final review. Take your time and grasp the concept. Change your thought process too.

Your thought process should be like this.

Fox example if it's a questions about lease

!st step. Read the question carefully! (Always do this) and see what the question about. If it's about Capital lease. Your mind should immediately go to the four criteria for Capital lease.

    Ownership transfer
    Written Bargain Option
    Ninety percent FV
    75% lease life.
If anyone of them is present, choose the answer capital lease and move on. No need to waste more time. If you can do this for majority of qns you would be in good shape.

FAR May 2012 81 (lost credit, didn't sit for other sections.)
    FAR 86 Aug 2015
    AUD 85 Nov 2015
    BEC 84 Dec 2015
    REG 78 Mar 2016

Passed ALL sections in first attempt!!

What were your breakdown results? Usually they send that out at what topics you were weaker in. Also maybe you just got unlucky on simulations?

I failed far twice and this time I'm making sure I do all the simulation questions as that is also 40% of the grade.

My breakdown was “stronger” and average on every MC category and I got “weaker” on simulations. Simulations are important and after my second retake I learned I need to do them all.

    AUD: 78
    BEC: 81
    FAR: 73, 85
    Reg: 84

I am finishing my last accounting course for CPA requirement. I have been on this forum for about 2-3 weeks now and been reading all suggestions. I am trying to figure out which order should I take the exams in (I know there is no set order) but how do I tame this CPA lion? Which study guide is good? How much time should I spent studying before attempting exam? Any suggestions will be appreciated!!

    AUD - September 2016
    REG - October 2016
    BEC - November 2016

I think you should change the technique. Doing all the MCQ doesn't mean you understand the materials, once you did a lot of repeating questions, you started to memorize the answers. Like Kenster said, you should make your own notes, think about the MCQ questions that you got wrong.

    Far 10/26/2015, 64, 1/4/2016, 82
    Reg 7/10/2015, 60, 2/27/2016, 86
Aud, 5/9/2016, 74 (ouch), 7/26/2016, I cannot wait to take this test again
    Bec, 6/10/2016, 70,9/8 retake

No, 60 hrs included the lectures. I study by doing MCQs first to identify my strengths/weaknesses. If I score 70% or above on a pretest section, I skip the lecture. Please keep in mind though that I work in Tax, which really helped me for REG, and I previously took BEC last year, making a 74. I expect to study about 100-120 hours for FAR, but no where near the amount of time you've put in. I think you are closer than you think, but you just need to revamp your study routine. Concentrate on your weak areas and really understand why an answer is wrong or right, to keep you from just memorizing MCQ answers. Good luck!

    BEC - 88 8/29/15
    REG - 82 11/14/15
    AUD - 83 1/8/16
    FAR - 80 2/29/16
