I failed FAR twice. The first time I got a 62 (August 2014) and the second time I got a 71 (November 2014). I’m happy that I made a 9 point improvement the second time around but I’m worried that I might fail for a third time. Does anyone have any study suggestions that might help? I am currently using Becker to review.

    Ktom,

Sorry to hear that you have failed a second time. It seems like based on the what you have said that you are on the right track. If you studied 10 hours, then study 11 hours the next time around.

There is no big secret to the exam other than reviewing the lectures, taking notes, making flashcards, and have a solid 2 weeks of re-write your notes, take a lot of MCQ's and re-writing mistakes you made on MCQ's.

I wish you luck on your next exam.

    Regards,

    Gary

I was in a similar position. You should know if you're ready or not. I had a test on 11/12 and two nights before I talked to the wife and was honest with myself. I was not comfortable with all sections so I paid to reschedule to the next day available which was 11/24 and fortunately passed. Focus studies on NFP/ government (know financial statements and what goes where). MCQ and Ninja flash cards helped me with that and learning the funds. The rest of the test is up in the air so you need to have a good understanding with it all. I think my test had to be the 25% when they say 20-25% of the test because o feel I saw so much of those topics.

I spent that extra time to review my materials, re reading notes, re-writing journal entries and examples from the book. Testing myself with MCQ from trouble sections (did not do too many that prevented me from getting to a section). I also used flash cards and ninja audio at the gym. Basically made that extra time a solid review. I feel that is the difference from a pass and a fail how efficient of a review you get in. Keep your mind right. Law of attraction. Know you will pass and set yourself up for success. I did not study the day of the test (test was at 5pm).

Lastly. I did not spend time practicing the simulations. I spent time learning the examples and materials because we never know what will show up on simulations. I was not alarmed with sims because each of them was a topic I was comfortable with. My score is not nothing special but it is a pass. I hope you get over this hurdle because for me it was my best feeling after a pass.

I bumped my FAR score up enough to pass (and I didn't think I would be able to honestly).

What I did the 2nd time around was just do constant MCQs. Round the clock. Anytime I got an MCQ wrong, I wrote it done on a tablet. Explained why I got it wrong. And moved on. I did this for each section and reviewed my notes throughout my studying to keep refreshed.

I also made notecards with standard JEs on them to keep handy. The more entries you can commit to memory, the better off you'll be.

Best of luck! You can do it.

I got a 66 on my first FAR last August. For the retake in Nov i went to an 81. I did 1,200 MCQ the first time and 2,000 MCQ the second time. I took a ton of notes and studied the Ninja Notes a lot.

In the last week of my prep i went through a lot of the Ninja Flashcards. That really helped me regurgitate the information. I sat on my phone for hours with that app. I barely used it for the other tests but it helped me here.
