I know its only been a week and I probably should be more patient, but FAR is driving me crazy. The first chapter was ok, but F2 killed me. The MC took me hours to complete and a lot of them I couldnt understand the explanations (i feel like becker just shows the calculations on how to answer a specific question but doesnt explain specifically why something is added here or there or why one number is used and another is not, etc.) . I dont even see how I am supposed to be able to use what the book taught me to answer some of the hw questions. I got about 50% (at best 60) on the HWs and read through F2 twice but still not much better. Should i just move on and worry about it later?

Yep move on. I got hung up on it as well. It's a very difficult chapter for sure. Stay on track with your study timeline because you'll feel bad about a lot of stuff in FAR. It all comes together during the review phase. You actually didn't do that bad on your first time through.

    Using Becker self-study
    FAR: (82) 175 hours - 1st attempt
    BEC: (XX)
    AUD: (69) 45hrs of study - 1st attempt
    REG: (XX)

@12tang…thanks for the advice. I probably took a lot more time than you did on the MC and I also relied on the book to do a bunch of the calculations so idk how reliable my scores are in determining how strong I am with F2. I was leaning towards moving on regardless.

Hey, I'm in the same boat. I'm really not sure how people remember anything for far, i can't even answer simple multiple choice questions sometimes just because everything is mixed up in my head. But i did notice forget and remember technique works. First time i read through some inventory section (dollar value lifo and lifo layers and all that bla bla bla), I had no idea what they were talking about, just complete blank on everything. I could've read it 5 seconds ago and you could've asked me, just to summarize what i read and i would not be able to put it in words, that's how bad it was. But i read it the 2nd time and things started to click.

So in short, my suggestions, if you don't understand something at all, mark it down and move on. Let your brain absorb it on some subconscious level and get back to it in couple days or so.

I can't help you on this. I don't know how to solve this equation. Sorry.

I'm in the review stage now as I take it in a couple weeks. I just reviewed Chapter 6 (Pensions), after having studied it about 2-3 weeks ago. I wound up getting about 40% of the Pension Plan MCQs correct, even though I understood this topic reasonably well a couple weeks ago.

A piece of advice: review as you go. Don't wait until your final two weeks to review.

reading the chapters and hw is just to help you get an overview and to see what you can remember on the first go. 50s are completely normal on FAR hw btw

far ch 2 was BRUTAL for me too just because theres a lot of different types of info they throw together into one chapter. DEFINITELY move on

you'll begin to review a lot of the information when you begin practicing just mcq after you've gone through the chapters and hw. practicing mcq till you can't anymore is truly whats gonna help you retain all the info.

    good luck!

I am taking my FAR exam tomorrow afternoon, i was stuck just like you, trust me as you move on, you will go back and it will all come together. i started reviewing 3 weeks ago, last week i was like “i dont know anything” this week i feel like i know it all, improved my scores from 50-60% in progress to 70-80% and first attempts on final review i averaged around 70-75%. Try to review old stuff whenever you got time. don't hold it all for the last couple weeks to review, it will be overwhelming. all sections should come easy, chapter 5 and 6 is where i am having trouble.

    BEC: 82
    FAR: 80

AUD: Last exam, end of may 2016.

Key to passing the exam is understanding the topic chapter and sections, not just memorizing what you read. The more you practice multiple choice, the greater chance you have to passing the exam.

I took FAR earlier this month and for me when I when over the chapters the first time and did the MC questions I was extremely overwhelmed. After viewing all the lectures, I went through and re-read all the chapters on my own. This helped solidify everything. FAR just takes time to sink in.

Kayla123 – How much time did you spend preparing for FAR? Just curious.

F2 sucks the first time but as you do the rest of the chapters it comes together.
