EWS Award Questions

I recently received my last score and found out that I was eligible for the EWS award. I was understandably excited and shared this news with my family and a few people in my office. Someone in my office told me the other day that he knew a guy who got it last year who received an email with his last score that said he was not allowed to say anything about the EWS award until they announced the winners. I didn’t receive any letter like this, and I’m a little concerned that my telling some people will have a negative impact on receiving the award. My manager has also been telling people that I received the award, so I’m not sure if I should politely ask him to stop.

Can any prior EWS award winners shed any light on this? Also, do we have to submit our final scores to the AICPA in some sort of application for the award, or do we just wait?

    Thanks!

I think you should keep that word “Eligible” out front just in case there is some discrepancy. We can say we are eligible to sit for the exam, or CPA candidates but we can't say we are CPA's until we actually have the license or license number even though all parts are passed. “Eligible” would be the key word in this case.

Congrats…….Hard work definitely pay off. Well done and good luck.

P.S. not an award winner, haven't passed a part yet, but look forward to joining the winning side soon.

Right, I've been trying to say “I'm eligible” or “assuming they keep the criteria the same, I should be receiving”…something along those lines. I just thought it was strange that we supposedly can't discuss it at all.

Do you know a good way to bring it up to my manager? He mentioned that I was an award winner to a couple of partners today, and I felt very uncomfortable correcting him in front of them, so I just didn't say anything.

I wouldn't correct anyone – I would just let it fade until you have it in hand.

Does anyone know when they let you know if you're in the running for the award or give any sort of indication that you've got it? Do all eligible candidates just have to wait until they officially publish the names in March/April?

    AUD - 99 (5/2013)
    BEC - 93 (5/2013)
    FAR - 97 (7/2013)
    REG - 94 (8/2013)

I'm not sure, but I know you have to attain an average of at least 95.5 as of last year as someone in my class received the award. With that being said, if there were a ton of people who had a higher average than you, you might not get the award.

I pulled that information from an article I read a few months ago, not sure if it's true. For all we know this year the EWS could cut off could be bumped up, etc.

    AUD - 94
    REG - 86
    BEC - 86
