    All,

This forum may not be the ‘ideal place’ for this question, but we are professionals or soon to be professionals.

Earlier this week the Supervisor (Executive level) and I were clearing out an old office due to the fact that the accounting department is relocating to a new wing of the building.

As I was going through some paperwork the supervisor abruptly and without hesitation asked if I was seeking employment and if i was ‘unhappy’ with the employer/ and herself. This action of her’s shocked me a lot and I was caught like a Deer in the headlights. I answered NO to both of her inquiries. Her inquiry did make me feel uncomfortable and a bit uneasy. I asked why and her reply was that she was ‘informed’ that I actively applied to several positions.

That said, was it her place and business to inquire about my future endeavors?!

Lastly, how should I tackle FAR? Skipp reading the text along with the lectures? Hammer out MCQs? Add Ninja notes?

    Thank you for your input.

Of course it is her place to ask you that. You don't have to validate or deny her questions but you're correct to question where that information was coming from. And who knows? Maybe she thought she was giving you the opportunity to discuss issues you may have that are valid before you accept another offer.

I think the NINJA notes are always a cost effective boost to your score.

    AUD -49, 71, 84
    REG -56,75!
    BEC -75

Put yourself in her shoes and maybe you'll understand. It is her job to ensure she has proper staffing. If you are planning on leaving she needs to plan for that. Definetely do a lot of MCQs but I wouldn't completely skip out on the text or lectures.

How is that not her place to ask that? You should try not telling all of your “friends” at the firm you are actively seeking I'd you don't want her asking.

Also, just learn it like the rest of us have, traitor

Yes as others have pointed out, it is her business, one of the primary job functions on the soft side of management skills is making sure your good people are happy. The good news is that you are probably well liked because if you weren't you would already be canned.

If your primary issues are those that are under her control, it's a great time to discuss things. If they aren't under her control then you have no choice but to deny everything because at that point you are taking a risk for zero potential reward. The question in an informal setting like that is more about gaging your response…body language, facial expressions. Few bosses are going to expect a “No”, but what they want to see is how you say it.

I was asked the “are you really happy here” question about six months ago at my present employer. “Well I think you should stop discriminating against tea drinkers by having only coffee…but otherwise ya I'm thrilled here”. Respond to an “outlandish” question with an outlandish answer….and only get serious if they appear to probe further…”wait..what you were serious? Yes Im happy..What on earth gave you that idea?”
