    Hi all,

With staff evaluations coming at my firm next month, I was curious to what you all in public accounting are expecting for salary increases this year.

My firm in located in southeast Texas and has around 50 staff with 6 partners. Including the partners there are probably around 12 CPAs at the firm. We perform mostly tax and compilation services.

I was reading online that the standard salary increase in 2017 will be around 3%. Is that what most of you are expecting? I have 3 years experience as well

Each situation/evaluation is unique. From my personal experience:

2007-2009 averaged about 10% year over year
2009-2012- No one in my firm got a raise due to the recession UNLESS you a got promoted. In my case I made Senior and got about 6% (really crappy IMO)
2012- left public for private got 12% bump
2013 to present- left private for public- averaged about 3% since.

I have almost doubled my salary in less than 10 years. Now I am capped for the most part not counting inflation until the CPA exam is complete when I can move on to supervisor/manager. From there the sky is the limit, but Senior Managers at our firm make like 140K (we are in high COL though)

    Thanks for the info!

I earned my CPA before my last evaluation, and received around a 13% increase in pay, but I'm not really sure what to expect this year. Another year of experience and took on quire a few more clients, so hoping for the best but keeping my expectations in check.

I was fortunate enough to receive a 20% raise when I got my CPA late last year so I don't expect any additional raise this year. I'm good with that.
