I really need advice because my situation is very complicated. I am done with the CPA exam, and I am currently looking for an intern or an entry level position in an accounting firm although I am 38 years old and I have more than 10 years of experience as an A/R accountant. The problem is that non of my professional experience is in the United States. I have been in the US for 5 years doing only law-paid and unrelated jobs, and these five years represent a huge gap in my resume. It really seems crazy to me to apply for an internship position with 11 years of experience. Another problem is the fact that I have an accent, and from the only one interview that I got, I concluded that employers in public accounting may not like foreign accent because of the great amount of interaction with clients required in public accounting.
I thought passing the the CPA exam will end my suffering, but it seems like I still have long way to go.
Any advice is really appreciated.
