Does anyone feel guilty when they pass a section?

I thought for sure I had failed BEC and AUD and managed to pass with good scores… I know a lot of people think that when that happens, that the person obviously was just making a big deal out of nothing, but with both of those tests my testlets didn’t seem to increase in difficulty and the SIMS/WC didn’t seem like they went well. After the backlash I got with everyone after passing AUD (“oh, yeah, thought you FAILED, geez”) I tried not to say too much about how I felt about BEC, except to vent to my husband. When I told him I passed, he gave a halfhearted “yay” and said, “For God’s sakes, you about had me convinced you failed that time, ” and then scoffed at me when I told him I really did think that I had failed…

A friend of mine has also been taking these things this year and he’s still working on getting that first pass and I accidentally let it slip that I was worried about this one and that it would be hard to get the motivation to study if I failed, to which he responded along the lines of, “You’ve at least passed two and that’s nonsense”. While I’m excited that I passed, I can’t help but feel bad about it. It’s not like I come out of the testing center feeling like a rock star or anything… I think for my last one I won’t say anything to anyone until I get my score.

Does anyone else ever feel kind of guilty about passing?

Mommy needs a cookie. Holding the vodka off until the next kid comes out in August! Can't believe I'm done!

I honestly thought I could have failed FAR (could have gone either way, imo) and I came away with a pretty good score.

I realize now that I am a poor judge of my performance. I just say “I can't tell, I feel good about it.” or “I can't tell, it could go either way” to people now.

I believe you shouldn't feel guilty for passing (you worked hard, amirite?). I don't want to make people feel like they are subject to my drama, so I try to keep all my crazy emotions about the test to myself, or on this forum πŸ™‚

    AUD - 7/5/13 - 93
    FAR - 8/24/13 - 91
    BEC - 11/30/13 - 92
    REG - 2/24/14 - 91! DONE!

Not at all. I've worked my tail off on this exam with all the required classes, experience, and then finally passing the exams. Passing the CPA doesn't require one drill down and study the material as naseum to the nth degree to where one knows every single rule and exception. It's more of a test of sheer will power and discipline that will take everything you've got to pass in a given window. Knowing the concepts well but not excessively is perfectly acceptable given the volume this exam covers. Going into FAR I feel like I didn't know it that well but somehow I was able to pull off a victory by getting the most out of the little time I had to prepare for that exam. I know I couldn't have done it all on my own smarts or merits. I definitely give credit to my amazing wife who was there to support me all the way and The Lord for making this possible! I couldn't have done it without Him. I think rather than feeling guilty I feel more blessed to have passed each section. I know what you mean though with your question but I think a little perspective is worth taking into consideration. πŸ˜‰

I feel bad/guilty when people ask me about my scores. I know there's no difference between a 75 and a 99, but I don't like telling people my scores.
