Do you tell your significant other about all the news/gossip/drama at work?

We just had our Christmas party over the weekend and I realized how little my wife knows about most of the people and happenings at my work. She knows who the major players are (immediate boss and various top dogs in the office), but I don’t often go into detail about the other various personalities. I haven’t done this consciously, but I believe it stems from my feelings of trying to keep work at work so I can have a true break from it when I’m at home.

Anyone else like this, or can you just not wait to go home and dump all the workplace drama on your significant other?

There are a handful of people that I do discuss extensively. Generally they are folks who stand out for one reason or another (like the HR admin who makes way too many mistakes on very significant issues). but for folks who don't fly their freak flag I never mention them. I think my husband believes I work with 4 people although I really work with 38.

    FAR- 77
    AUD -49, 71, 84
    REG -56,75!
    BEC -75

Massachusetts CPA (non reporting) since 3/12.

I'm between husbands right now πŸ™‚ but I do dish with my close friends. But I think that women tend to process daily stuff more by talking/listening… Without a sympathetic ear, I'd go crazy.

    REG 75
    FAR 88
    AUDIT 82
    BEC 74, 12/4/2013 84 Thank You Lord Jesus !!!

We share a little about the crazies we work with, but not so much that it takes over the evening. That can be a downer. I used to be firm believer in keeping work at work and home at home philosophy, but I try to soften the lines now. Otherwise, your significant other has no idea what 9 or 10 hours of your day was like.

@mla1169 I think my wife is the same, probably thinks I would with about 3-5 people when really it's more like 20-30. πŸ™‚

I get my gossip bug out my talking it out with some of my coworkers, but for the most part I find it to exhausting to try and give the whole back story to my wife of why what this person did was ridiculous. When we were at the Christmas party I tried to keep it simple by simply whispering, “I'm not a big fan of this person… oh hi Sally, so great to see you!”

LOL = well since I work with so many PhD's I get my fair share of comedies at work. Infact I have nicknamed them

    1. Sheldon from Big Bang… Seriously I have an actual real life Sheldon at work… OMG — You have no idea how many advil pills I have to take when dealing with this man!

    2. Dart Vader – Yep I have one of “those” men at work. When he starts wonder around the building he looks very freaky.

    3. Worf – Klingon. – Super hot headed and just sees things as black and white. Has a huge pride issue.

    5. Spock – Way to logical and annoying. Everyone has to be perfect and if he doesn't understand he will actually say “this is not logical” .. “this is not possible”

I swear he needs to get a life.. He doesn't even smile just like spock. Has this no expression face!

Now since my spouse is also a PhD I can't talk about the crazy stuff at work. Bugger has to analyse the situation!! UGGHHH all I want is for him to Listen and have a good laugh.
