Do you put additional designations after your name?

If you are already a CPA, would you put additional designations and certificates that you receive after your name, or is that considered tacky? Such as CMA, CFE, CIA, CGMA? If you do, when does it stop?

Would you put it on a business card?

Would you put it in your resume?

Would you put it on your email signature?

When I finish the masters program, I will put

CPA, MPA after my name on biz cards, email etc because that is the hot ticket on our campus. I also want to do the CMA but not sure when. I will cross that bridge when I get there.

    I think it depends.

For me I have two other designations that are like the CPA but for other countries..example I have the CGA for Canada and ACCA for the UK.

I pay membership fees to these bodies and worked hard to pass those exams too. So for me personally I will have those two designation on my email and business card along with the CPA once I attain it.

It's subjective depending on who your audience is. My general purpose advice is choose only one designation for your business card and email sigs. Put as many as you have into your resume and LinkedIn profiles (not by your name, just within the body).

    FAR - 71, 94
    BEC - 91
    REG - 51, 88
    AUD - 89

I'm planning to use just the CPA. It's a certification. The rest are degrees so I don't want to mix them.

And I agree with the previous post. It's about the audience.

    FAR: 81 (May 2013)
    BEC: 81 (July 2013)
    REG: 83 (August 2013)
    AUD: 82 (November 2013)
    California CPA since 1/30/14

I put my master's degree on my card but not my email. Thought about doing the CMA after the CPA. Now, I just want to survive and finish the CPA. Don't plan on anything after that. Too much time and money for something that no one seems to care about.

I was wondering the same thing about the CMA too Curtis.

It seems like not too many people know about the CMA. I mention CMA at work and people don't really know what I'm talking about and I working in the Financial Reporting area. People all know about MBA, CPA and CFA but not much else it seems.

According to the below link people with both CPA and CMA make more money than just CPA, but I don't know how that matches up against CPA and Masters.

In either case you also need years of experience! No one will offer me $100K just because I have MBA, CPA, CMA and only 3 yrs of auditing experience with a state agency…

I tend to lean towards going without unless there is some real necessity in it. You see these LinkedIn profiles with John Doe, MS, MBA, CPA, CMA, CIA, LMNOP, ok, really?!

I just feel like with how freely information is, if someone is actually interested in your creds they'll look them up on LinkedIn. So skip the John Doe, LMNOP and create a LinkedIn profile, this way people can see whacha got and you don't look pretentious.

That said, choosing 1 isnt so bad, and in that case I lean more towards the cert (CPA) than the degree.
