My parents came over this weekend and the first thing they tell me is they don’t feel that I am studying enough for the tests. I am married and have my own house and see them maybe 3-4 times a year. I almost flip out, at this point I am going to stop telling them when my tests are and when my scores come out. If i see anybody at a grocery store that I know I try to steer the conversation away from the CPA test as much as possible. It is actually quite exhausting, How do you guys deal with this?

It's imperative to go berzerker on everyone you see until you pass 3 out of 4 exams. It's all downhill from there.

It's not required, although it may make you feel better to go berzerker after you pass three exams.

Being 3/4 there, I speak from experience.

I know exactly what ur going through. I try to avoid this topic as much as possible. I used to tell my parents (and friends) when I had exams and it got really frustrating because they were always curious to see if I passed, which adds so much pressure.

Now I don't tell ANYONE when I have an exam. That way, it's less pressure. I study at my own pace, and once I'm ready to take an exam, I take a half day off of work or call in sick and I go and take it. No one at work needs to know cuz then ur boss or friends are all up in ur business with questions like “How many exams do u still have” or “When do ur results come out?”

Hi Crunch, that's tough! Hopefully the meaning behind it is that they really want to see you pass and succeed, it's just coming out like a criticism. I limit who I tell to those who I know will be supportive. I usually tell people the general timing of the tests and score release and then tell them if I don't volunteer that I passed, don't ask me. Be honest and tell them that the tests are very difficult and that you need their undying love and support in order to pass 🙂

Avoid talking…..i stopped after I needed to change my test dates. I don't know why I felt to obligated to tell everyone the dates, and scores. They(family and friends) used these opportunities to compare me to others or decided if I am cut out for accounting. Who asked them anyway. It is very aggravating, but it's my decision if I will continue or when I will take the test. I can't take the stress so I am doing what I have to do and skipping the constant updates. I am wondering if they will be happy when (not if) I pass.
