Is there anyone with any insights into the Accounting job market in Austin or Dallas, TX?

Looking to move there in short order. I’ve heard nothing but good things about Austin, but are there any boots on the ground with first hand knowledge?

Decided Michigan for me and looking for sunnier/warmer climates.

Passed FAR, REG. Awaiting my Enrolled Agent certification.

Should I go the job search alone, or should I try to find a good recruiter out there?

Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys!

I'm not in Texas so idk how much help I can be but I know the EY office in Dallas is huge whereas the Austin office is pretty small. This is probably an indication into the opportunities and job market in the two cities.

Austin is a pretty cool city though. If I had to pick the two completely based on city life I would choose Austin. But you'll likely find more job opportunities in Dallas.

That being said, I will defer to anyone's advice that actually lives there over mine.

I'm in Austin and as far as I can tell, there are plenty of jobs if you know where to look and you have the right qualifications. I've been at my firm for almost 3 years now. It depends on what you're looking for. I was working with a recruiter and looking on my own when I found this job. I ended up applying for this position on LinkedIn.

I live in Dallas and I can tell you first hand, the job market for Accountants is waaaaayyyyy better than Austin. Our cost of living is lower and our Salaries are definitely higher. Texas doesn't have State Tax, so more money in your pocket.

I work for a Healthcare company and get paid pretty well. If you're in public Accounting, KPMG, EY and Deloitte are pretty huge out here.

Recruiters will be your best route since the Accounting/Finance market has shifted to utilizing them. I find it very helpful because they definitely fight for you when it comes to salary.

    Hope this helps 🙂 @cessnapilot30

I dont know anything about Austin, but Dallas, Texas seems like a growing city economically. Since Toyota motor sales will completely move to near Dallas from here (Southern California) by next spring, I am sure that there will be many many many jobs availabe in Dallas area including accounting jobs. I mean Not only TMS, but also many many other small-medium size businesses will move to near Dallas. My husband works for TMS. He was telling me that not many current employees willing to move to Texas from here. I think Dallas will be the city where a lot of potential job openings available for the next a few years. Good luck!
