Just curious how much you remember from the exam (all areas) and how often you get to apply the complex stuff in practice. I feel like I am going to be one of those dumb CPA’s when it’s all said and done since I won’t get a chance to use it.

Yes, you need to recall a lot from what you study for this exam. You may not need to directly apply concepts; however, the rigor and level of precision that goes into preparing for the exam is something that is heavily leveraged in the real world.

    I've always heard CPA= Can't Pass Again.

I have the same issue with you. You are not the one, but there's no other option so just keep trying. We will pass it if we want it very badly.

    FAR: End of April
    AUD:
    REG:
    BEC:

The answers are in the book. All you need is to be patient and try to understand it.

I'm an accounting manager in industry so my answer will be different than someone in public accounting, but I was doing my job before the CPA exam and I learned that on the job because obviously I'm not a CPA yet and wasn't sitting for the exam when I got the job. There are some complex issues, but nothing like the exam. Plus, once you have a new situation you figure out how to account for it and then it's pretty much set from there on out because of the need for consistancy. If I were working for a CPA firm or an auditing firm I think the CPA would be very useful for that, but in the day to day operations and accounting for ONE company year after year, you aren't going to run into a lot of the things you are tested on.

This reminded me of lyrics by one of my favorite song writers – Matt Maher:

    “I'm lost and found

    I'm saved and drowned

I'm everything and nothing all at once

    Oh, I'm so far gone

    But I'm already home”

Most CPAs specialize in one field and are very knowledgeable in that area. Most don't have to remember every thing they studied for the exam.

Lord knows I've already forgotten most of what I learned to pass BEC and AUD!

I think someone earlier already said it, but nobody will practice all aspects of what is covered on the exam. You'll specialize in one area or another. Also if you go into public practice, chances are you won't be immediately going to work for yourself. You will more than likely work with many knowledgeable people with more experience than yourself, who will handle the more complex issues. That being said, when I was studying, I would ask many of the CPAs I worked with for help on topics I was struggling with. Most couldn't give me much help.
