Hello All,

Question for anyone with knowledge of the FBI. I am interested in applying next summer and am beginning to look into the process a bit.

Does anyone have any experience in this area that would be willing to share tips and experiences?

I attended an alumni event at my school and one of the speakers was a CPA field agent with FBI in NYC. She had been there about 10 years at the time and loved it. You are law enforcement first with them. She was a gun toting, badge carrying, field agent who did work on Madoff case. I see jobs posted in USAJOBS all the time for agents.

Make sure you check out the PT test requirements.
From what I hear the FBI PT is pretty intense for desk jockeys.
Just something to look into. Not sure your age or fitness level.

Oh ya! Good post @DS looks like that guy had good federal audit experience before FBI – Before joining the FBI, Pablo was a special agent with the U.S. Secret Service and an auditor for the Defense Contract Audit Agency.
There is an age limit for FBI so hurry up!

It will depends on your location. In NYC, they have not call anyone 2018 or 2019 (even if you passed and on the list). Either that or the list barely moved.

The game might be very different now because of COVID and crime / anti problems.

Thank you all. I am 24, ex college wrestler, licensed CPA. Have been interested in the FBI for a few years, just waiting another year before I decide whether I want to commit to it. Very interested in a Special Agent role, thinking my skills would translate well!

Just be mindful that your fitness is calculated by your age, your height and your weight. The scoring scale might be slightly different. It might take you a few years to get in. But you have time, until age 36.

If you passed the test, you might or might not be called. Your passing score only lasted for x amount of time (One year? Not sure). If you were not call then you got to take it again (happens very often).

There might be a prefer list, I don't know, age, ethic group, languages, geographic, etc.

I'm not personally in this field or interested in it, these are just rumors I've heard from people who are interested or had took the test. Again, NYC is very different and definitely have high completionas ..

Good luck in the process. Having a CPA and some solid work experience will make you competitive for FBI positions.

Just remember that special agents (SA) work all types of violations and can be assigned initially anywhere in the US after finishing the FBI academy. It could be possible that you may not even work any fraud/white-collar crimes in your career which may be more aligned with our background. Nonetheless the critical thinking and analytical skills you have developed with help.

If you are interested in doing forensic accounting work then you may want to check out the FBI – Forensic Accounting (FoA) position – https://www.fbijobs.gov/career-paths/forensic-accountant

They are not agents (no badges or guns), but work throughout the investigative process with agents and prosecutors. It just may be another option if you to be sure to work financial types of investigations.

Both SA and FoA careers are rewarding and each come with their own up and down side.

I had similar thoughts to you and i applied back in April. I've been moving along through the assessments/interviews at a decent pace since. Being a former college wrestler, i do not think the physical fitness aspect would be extremely difficult granted you haven't completely let yourself go since graduation. I too am a CPA and when i hit the 3 year work experience mark i applied. Note that if you can pass the assessments, typically the CPA along with applicable work experience will make you competitive. I would also look into the IRS Criminal Investigation special agent position.

Additionally, you may want to check out the forums over at federalsoup as they have a dedicated subforum for people who are interested in joining the FBI that provides a lot of valuable information.
