    Hi guys,

As you know, the requirements are going to change on January 1, 2017. I have already passed my CPA test along with the ethics exam, but won’t have my hours until February 1, 2017. Is there any way they will let me use the prior requirements? I have 150 units but don’t have the accounting ethics courses that are in the new requirements. This is really depressing because I don’t want to go to school again and just don’t know where I will find the time.

You can always ask; sometimes state boards will give an exception to a specific rule, especially when it relates to something that's just off by a month or two. However, it's on a case-by-case basis, and I don't know how likely CA is to grant or not grant an exception.

However…if all that you will lack is 3 semester hours or 4 quarter hours of ethics, that's not even a big enough thing to worry that much over. Find an online option to take the course, and fit it in around the edges in life. I've heard many people from CA say they were doing Foothill's online ethics course for this specific reason.

If I was in your shoes, given that it will likely take awhile to hear back from an appeal, I'd probably sign up for an 8-week spring ethics course, so that I'd have it done by about the time I had the experience and still could get licensed by March or April or so.

from everything I've read CA is playing hardball on meeting the deadline and your completed application meeting all requirements including experience has to be submitted by Jan 1, 2017 or they'll reuire the new 2017 requirements.

    Thanks Lilla.

I will give the California Board of Accountancy a call today and see what they say. If I do only need the ethics course then it won't be much of an issue. However, I would need to take it online and I will check on Foothill.

    Thanks!

I am TOTALLY following this because my stupid self did not want to spare the expense of doing priority for my transcript and I'm worried since CALCPA is off until Jan 3rd. I'm immensely worried if they will RECEIVE all of my paperwork in time. I have the units and the application has been received. But the transcript SHOULD come by this week (hopefully) though I don't know since the CalCPA is off, my ethics exam will be sent this week or next week.

Okay, I called them and they were VERY strict about receiving all the materials by the 31st. Also, they're not OPEN the 31st, so everything has to be IN by the 30th. Now I really wished I just coughed the stupid priority cost for the transcript. I'm considering ordering another transcript so it would arrive by the 30th but I don't know if I should commit to that cost when my ethics exam is also in question.

I finished my ethics exam BY the 22nd and that's when the CalCPA offices closed, so I don't know HOW to confirm whether or not they've sent my ethics exam yet.

Hasy splurge on the extra transcript, its not a guarantee at this point but you'll always know you did everything possible to meet the deadline.

hasy, I ordered transcript Wednesday in the late afternoon via Fedex standard overnight. CBA received it Friday. It all depends on the schools, but I think many schools offer expedite process and delivery services. Transcript was my last one to be sent. I took Ethics class just in case. Good luck to us!

LOL. You 2 are so cute. I love the people in this forum. I actually JUST submitted another transcript request before going back to this site and yes, I forked over the $25 for express. >.<” I'm literally waiting to reap on the rewards this license will bring because seriously, it literally costs an arm and a leg (maybe even another arm) to get licensed.

I give props to those of you who actually pay for these exams and MBA classes.. No way would I have gone through this spending my own money on it. I am grateful my company paid 100% of my MBA and CPA costs including the Becker review course.

    @trele6

The only college I paid for is my alma mater. I used every possible means to NOT pay for the additional classes that I had to take. I applied for FAFSA during my last year of college because I knew that I would have to take more classes at a CC. The BOG waiver pays for all the classes I took, aside from the class materials. I took 19 units in 2 semesters and I would have taken more but I was too into fall recruiting right after college. And now, I might be short, so I have to cough money to pay for that ethics course.

@trele6, you are lucky. Not many companies would shell out that kind of $$$ and pay 100% of your costs for an MBA and CPA

Also, I'm assuming if you get licensed in a different state and then transfer your license to CA in 2017 they will require the ethics class as well?

I believe so. Reciprocity in CA is very strict.
