Do you guys think the CPA exam deserve all this hype? I mean I am not trying to be an @ss or anything, but I feel like the exam is not impossible to pass if you study and put in the time you will pass. Do you agree?

I feel like most people on this forum are doing well, and that the majority of you are passing all four parts, and also looking at the statistics by Quarter, the passing rate is 50%+ per section in Q2, so if this is really a difficult exam shouldnt the passing rate be much lower? I mean don’t get me wrong I am happy that I passed, and that the everyone is doing well and passing and that statistics are above 50%, I just dont want this certification to lose its value over time like most of college degrees nowadays

Eh, I definitely put it on a pedestal, but as it turns out it was not worth all the stress and anxiety.
Just trust in the process. If you study you will pass. Sure I wish I had those 550 hours back, but the time is going to pass one way or another.
The hype surrounding the exam helped me focus and dedicate the time to it though, for sure.

Lol i think once u are done with all of them then u're like “eh, whats next”.. But i dont think it's an easy exam just because you have to be very determined and study enough to be able to make it over 75.. Its not impossible to pass just like MD or bar exam, all of those professional certifications are doable and are worth it because not everyone has the stamina to do them. It's not even the material thats hard but the fact that you have to chop off your life and just study for months..
Has the passing rate been like this historically? around 50%?

I think it differs from other exam in that we can't wing it. Someone might and they are great. That 50% pass rate is low, and there are plenty of people that tried and never met their goal. I think the CPA exam was properly hyped for me.

Women are attracted to those 3 letters like moths to a flame. They literally throws themselves at you !

Try getting promoted later in your career without the CPA license and try to understand the hype. You are guaranteed to make more money no matter what your rank is if you have those three letters.

I think CPAnnoying was referring to the difficulty of the exam being overstated.

@Turo9992000, you're right, I see his point now. My mistake

With that being said, you NEED to pass the Bar Exam to be a lawyer, you NEED to get a bachelor's degree to get a job in most fields. However, you do not need the CPA license to be an accountant. The majority of people taking the exam are taking it much more serious than people in college who are looking for a degree. With that being said, the pass rate in college was much higher and a good chunk of those people just skirted through college looking for the minimum. If the CPA exam difficulty was overstated, then almost all accountants would have it, and is it stands, quite a lot never get it.

I think if you pass CPA so easily, you are in wrong profession. You definitely have higher ceiling than just being CPA.

I am not an accountant, but I passed four in a row after one initial failure. I felt calm and pretty confident for the most part while taking the exams. My grades weren't great, but if a very non-professional can comfortably pass I would have to agree they are overhyped.

I felt the same way that I don't think this exam is hard. It's just a combination of luck and good memory on the exam date. It's hard because the time we had to put ourselves to study and remember those rules, the methods, and repeat the cycle when we failed. Also, it's hard if you go into it without a right reason like me (taking it because the teachers told you to do it and everyone at work is taking it). Did passing the exam make me smarter? I don't think so. However, it did help me understand the different problems I faced at work faster and fix it in a better way. I just hope when I have a license, it will give me more options about jobs I want to do in the future. 😀

Go work with some non CPAs and look at there accounting work..EA's and other non accountants time for the most part are cluless when it comes to adjustments and a lot of complex tax issues..

Just my expeierence..there is a reason you have to put hours in..and it shows with the knowledge you obtain, that said its not the end all tell all..but a stepping stone.

I think you’re just coming off the post exam high. Where you have a boost in your self esteem, and are not perceiving things for what they are.

If it is over hyped, why be an underachiever…go for a PhD in Taxation.

The exams is not an IQ test, but an test of discipline.

Will the CPA ever lose its value? I doubt it..aside from the recent updates that cause an expected slight jump in people attempting the exam, less and less people are taking the exams. So no, I doubt there will ever be an over saturation of CPA any time soon.
