My friend just started studying for the CPA Exams; unfortunately, I- ugh, she – made the mistake of paying for her test fees prior to the US Election. I- ugh, SHE – doesn’t want to give up now and will probably still study between nuclear shelter digging. While he probably won’t be *forced* to leave the country based on my his exterior appearance (on the outside, I appear to be “acceptable” – white, male, not too “flamboyant”, no religious-inspired headwear) – anyone have any suggestions on countries where a CPA license is in-demand, preferably somewhere with less xenophobic sociopaths? It’s for me, I lied – was that thinly-veiled enough?

Yesss, just need maybe 30% or so of you US CPAs to move away so I can take advantage of that sweet sweet vacuum in the CPA market that comes after. Should make controller about 5 years sooner than I would have. 😉

FOR REAL, kudos to @vanche !!

I was actually looking for this type of discussion as well since I was already considering opportunities abroad.

Don't move to Canada. Unless you like houses between four hundred thousand to a million dollars, four hundred dollar grocery bills and 30% to 45% of your check taken away before you get it. And gas, clothing, utilities, basically everything between one and a half to two times as much as in America (if not more). Goodbye disposable income, say hello to unaffordable living and debt! Canadians have the highest debt ratios on earth: 1.73. We have government(tax) funded media and press, so most Canadians don't even know they have it bad compared to other developed countries because they just compare American crime to Canadian and think hey at least we're safe. Also, Canada has crap weather.

    P.S. I am Canadian.

America still rules, I hope to be there soon!

Me too! I'm curious as to what the demand is like in Europe (if any). I think that there are parts like REG that aren't relevant in Europe at all. Other parts of the exam like FAR and AUD focus on AICPA and US rules and standards. I think it would be most beneficial if seeking jobs in US companies that have subsidiaries or offices abroad. Anyone have any feedback on this?

Could always go somewhere with a high American expat population and start a small business doing US tax returns. As of now, they are still required to file in the US.

@over_it that's not a bad idea! We do some tax returns for clients who live abroad, but I would imagine most would feel more comfortable speaking to someone they can talk to. But then would you be really busy during tax season if you are trying to have money for the whole year…well there are extensions too! I think their tax returns aren't due till June!
