CPA Demand outside of USA

My friend just started studying for the CPA Exams; unfortunately, I- ugh, she – made the mistake of paying for her test fees prior to the US Election. I- ugh, SHE – doesn’t want to give up now and will probably still study between nuclear shelter digging. While he probably won’t be *forced* to leave the country based on my his exterior appearance (on the outside, I appear to be “acceptable” – white, male, not too “flamboyant”, no religious-inspired headwear) – anyone have any suggestions on countries where a CPA license is in-demand, preferably somewhere with less xenophobic sociopaths? It’s for me, I lied – was that thinly-veiled enough?

I did a search on what countries recognize our CPA certification. There are quite a few. If I were to abandon ship, I would look into New Zealand. If you are going to get away, it might as well be as far away as possible and to a country with similar views. Good luck! We are all going to need it!

This country is certainly going to hell in a handbasket.

The US CPA is recognized in Australia but you have to take a few extra courses and fill out an application, etc. to become a Chartered Accountant there. I've read that the job market for accountants isn't so great right now.

Members of a legally constituted State Authority in the United States of America (US CPAs). If you are a US CPA, you must also provide documentation demonstrating satisfactory knowledge of Australian Business Law and Taxation.

I've read about this too. I was considering this too. There's an eligibility application you can fill out at Canadavisa.com. It's free, though cost of living in Canada is high. But I'm in CA so I'm not sure I need much of an adjustment. Australia and New Zealand are great places too. But more courses to take. Honestly, you could even try to apply to the national public accounting firms in another country. I know a big 4 partner I've spoken with, he was a senior at a local firm but he applied for a position in Switzerland. It fast-tracked his road to partner. I met him in 2014 and he JUST received his promotion as a partner (took him 16 years).

I'm certainly looking abroad to see if my skills can translate to relevant skills overseas. Also, know that Asian countries look favorably upon the CPA license as well. πŸ™‚

Reading this thread has puzzled me. How are people who are smart enough to pass the CPA exam not have the common sense to research the facts and come away with a logical opinion on what's actually going on in the world? Rather you rely on TV talking heads telling you what to think.

Not that you care, but I'll say it anyway: take it from someone who was born and raised where Bernie Sanders went on his honeymoon, those of you who were lucky-enough to have been born as Americans should count your blessings. There is no better country and system of government out there, no matter how many others may seem better from a philosophical standpoint.

I have worked in foreign countries and enjoy it. I would recommend Ireland. Canada is also nice in the summer and some places have great skiing in the winter. People shouldn't jump to conclusions regarding someones motivation to work outside the U.S. The U.S. is a great country and other countries are also great places to live.

Dramatic. We survived the last eight years; we'll survive the next eight. I'm actually staying as a result. πŸ™‚

Worry more about the upcoming CPA exam changes. You've got until April.

You aren't leaving, just seeking attention. You and your rioters need to grow up a little.

Cry a river, build a bridge, and get over it already. We have survived the last eight years, pretty sure we are tougher than we think!!! I wouldn't mind travelling after I obtain my CPA license, but that has nothing to do with the election and more to do with personal goals πŸ™‚

So much for a little topical humor! Got real up in ‘herr.

Survived the last eight years? Sounds like your own problem. I flourished, for the most part, these past 8 years – much like everyone else on this forum, I would venture to guess. I don't attribute my personal struggles or successes to any administration. It's called “personal responsibility” – you've probably heard of it – it's one of your Greatest Hits. However, if you'd like to compare and contrast the macroeconomic and financial metrics of the past 3 administrations- well, nevermind, of course you don't – why meddle in concrete evidence when you can throw out slam-dunks like “we survived the last eight years”.

“My rioters”? I don't own people… last I checked that was illegal, although with Steve Bannon pulling the strings while Donald Googles “How a Bill Becomes a Law” on Schoolhouse Rock… who knows?!?!

You wrote a post like a bitter 17 year old, were called on it, and now you're just trolling for an argument. Good on you, mate.

If you think that Kimble is trolling then don't answer to his post. I think you are the one that was actually looking for an argument when you posted that he was being dramatic and that you are staying because of the results. If you think some people are being “dramatic” or “overreacting”, fine – no one can tell you what to think in the same way that you shouldn't tell others what to think or how to feel.

That said, I don't think this is the proper place to have discussions regarding the election and we should focus on the question of CPA demand in other countries. There are various reasons this might be useful for others.

I have always wondered about Europe or the UK, both would be awesome to see and experience. I am very happy to hear that you have flourished in the last eight years, I lost a very good job to the recession and have been rebuilding every since. Not sure how that has anything to do with personal responsibility as my plant closed, but it has opened new doors career wise.
