I plan on starting to study for and take parts of the CPA exam this coming summer and would like to have my 150 credits to do so. I plan on taking two CLEP exams (Analyzing and Interpreting Literature and College Composition) for a total of 12 credits that I will transcribe at Excelsior College using their credit bank system. I’m curious, though, whether the NJ board will accept my College Composition credits as I have already taken “COLLEGE WRIT I: INTELLECT PROSE” and “COLLEGE WRITING II:WRIT & LIT ST” at my school. Are these classes too close in material and should I choose a different CLEP to take? Thanks

Do you know if you have enough accounting credits? That would likely be the bigger focus. But otherwise check with your state board since states differ in requirements.

    FAR- 77
    AUD -49, 71, 84
    REG -56,75!
    BEC -75

Yes, I'll have the required accounting credits I'm just not sure if general credits can overlap. Though to be safe I think I may just take a different CLEP

    As per Colorado board:

“CLEP credit is acceptable if you can provide an official transcript from a regionally accredited institution that shows you have been given credit for the course(s).”

What does it mean “if you can provide an official transcript from a regionally accredited institution”

I'm not familiar with CLEP test, isn't a test which I'll take and after pass I'll get exam results and submit them for the board.

Or I have to do additional process.

    BEC 82

    AUD 86

    REG 75

I moved this for you to the OT board. I have a question, though. Why CLEP instead of challenging classes at a university? Most universities will let you challenge a course for a lot less money. I challenged both computer science classes and a business class that I called “Secretary 101”. It cost me $30 for all three and all I had to do was meet with the professor and take the finals. It was a lot cheaper and easier than CLEP. If you need two classes, my advice is to talk to your state board about which classes count and then try to challenge them at a university. My transcripts don't say anything about the fact that the courses were challenged. It just says “Credit”.

I've never heard of challenging a course instead of paying full tuition & attending.. so I don't think “most” universities let you do this.

A quick search turned up this:

They still make you pay 60% of the tuition though.
