Chances of IRS Audit

I tried getting a side hustle going in 2020 by selling a service door to door and wasn’t able to get it off the ground. I made a sale my first day going door to door and the 2nd time I went door to door I got stopped by the cops. After that I decided I wasn’t going door to door without a permit. I Emailed and called the city about getting a permit but because of COVID I wasn’t able to get in touch with an actual person and thus I wasn’t able to get the permit. It’s not my fault COVID halted my efforts of getting the permit so I reported it as a loss on my taxes. I had about $1000 in expenses all for equipment and supplies and about $50 in sales. I was keeping my receipts at first but then I realized all the charges in my account that showed up as the name of the store would obviously be business expenses so I calculated my expenses based on the charges from that store and the Amazon purchases I made that were equipment/supplies. I realize now I would have been better off with receipts rather than just tracking the bank charges. What are my chances of an audit given the stated facts? Total income under 25k. It was the first year I tried getting the side hustle going.

Sounds like tax is not your niche. You probably won’t get audited, but I would keep any information used to file your return.

    It begins with a 75
Been here too long as a cheerleader....ready to pass
