Certification Question

I currently work in NYC and have met all requirements to be certified here. However, I plan on moving back to California by the end of this year and have been told it would be meaningless to apply for a CPA in NY State if I am planning to move away.

Outside of the ethics exam that CA requires, does anybody know if you can be legally certified as a California CPA while working in NY? I plan on going back in the near future, but if I can be certified in a different state sooner than later, that would be much appreciated.

I'd say get certified in NY and then do reciprocity with CA if they allow it.

First go at the CPA! Only using Becker
    Reg / Nov 2015 - 87
    Far / Apr 2016 - 79
    Bec / May 2016 - 80
    Aud / Aug 2016

I got my license in MN and moved to CO about a month after. The reciprocity application for Colorado was about the same as the initial application for Minnesota. So unless you REALLY like paperwork and requesting college transcripts enough to do it twice, I'd say just go with the state you intend to work in.

    B - 88 (2/16)
    A - 84 (4/16)
    R - 73 (6/16), 82(7/16)
    F - 67 (1/16), 84(4/16)

    Ethics - 93

I'd say it depends. Does California require 2 years, while NY requires 1? If so, you might just want to get certified in one state, then recip over to the other. My state requires two years experience (which is a pain in the ass). Additionally, the states might have different educational requirements. For example, some states require a masters degree, while some require a straight 150, which could cause problems.

Additionally, you'd have to review the recip laws. I think my state requires that you're a CPA at your old state for 5 years before it will transfer. Also, the the license might not recip, under certain conditions (ie. you didn't get your masters in the other state, etc.)

B=84 This exam was such a b**** that I thought I failed-don't know how these things work
A=76 Slacker I am, I'll happily take it
    R=81 I LOVE taxes
F=80 I don't wanna get banned for an expletive I'm thinking with "yea" proceeding it

The education requirement has changed since 1/1/2017 in California. You will need to take Accounting Ethics class (upper division unless offered in community colleges). Also, it takes a long time to be licensed. Mine took 5 months. Anyway, feel free to email the board: licensinginfo@cba.ca.gov. They usually respond within 24-48 hours.
