    Hi all,

So like many of you I put in a lot of time, hard work, and dedication to get my CPA license. Recently I was sat down with another manager about making a lateral move outside of accounting and into a mfg position that has a lot of leadership opportunities. My question is has anyone made a career switch and is this even worth considering even if I put in all this time into accounting? I’ve been out of school for almost 4 years.

What I tell my child – set your goals for 5 and 10 years out and only take opportunities that take you closer to that. What is your 5 and 10 year plan? No need to answer publicly – that's for you 🙂

I know many CPAs who have roles all over the map – and they got those opportunities because they were driven but also had great skills and discipline. Maybe some of your training would apply. But if your real vision would make you have to do a tap dance around why you went from accounting to that and how that fits into your dream role – then you have a problem.

It's not a sunk cost if you can use some of that skill and discipline and apply it in your environment. Manufacturing?! BEC is calling your name.

    Also – if I may – two words – Six Sigma 🙂
