Hi all – so I’m definitely not ready to take FAR on May 27th, my scheduled date. What happens if I don’t do anything (aka don’t go on prometric and cancel it, which would cost me $35)? I tried calling the prometric hotline, but it is useless.

I think it depends a bit on your state, but in Wisconsin if you are a no show you lose your NTS, and in order to take another test you need to reapply and file some forms explaining why you are a no show. Definitely cancel it or reschedule it if you aren't going to go. Being a no show will cost you more.

In Michigan if you cancel less than a month from your test its $35 if you cancel within 5 days of you test its like $88 for far. You can't cancel within 24 hours, if you do you lose all your money and I believe a no show would equal the same thing. So definitely reschedule/cancel at least before your a week out so the fee should be less. You have to understand that there are limited seats set aside for CPA candidates. So when you schedule your taking a spot from someone else. So if you don't feel prepared reschedule as soon as you can to help your fellow CPA candidate out! Just my two cents 🙂

Don't just not show up. Aside from taking an exam slot from someone who might really want to take it that day, being a no-show is the same thing as showing up, not answering a single question, and submitting your test for a 0, plus you lose the exam fee. Pay the $35 or $80 or whatever it is and reschedule.

Just go on the prometric site and select reschedule/cancel appointment. If you already know what date you want to take the exam then go ahead and choose reschedule but if you don't just select cancel appointment. As long as your NTS is not expiring in May then you should be fine and you won't lose your NTS. I had to do this recently and it worked just fine. Paying $35 to cancel is a lot better than doing a no show and losing out on $200+.

You should just pay the $35 and reschedule. I am fairly certain that if you no show you will have to pay for another exam and lose the one you paid for.

The $35 is so lame. Prometric should have to refund you the $35 if they end up scheduling someone else in your spot, which they probably do 9 times out of 10.

Bite the bolt and pay $35.

You should take it regardless so that you do not miss a window to test. Worst case is you fail and lose your $200, but what if you pass? At least if you fail you can take it next window as you're going to do anyways. It is also worth it for exam exposure to see how they test some FAR concepts and SIMS. I only say this because you have a couple sections already passed and you never know with the other two.
